Bus Strike Thursday 18th August

Postby krustyklo » Sun Aug 12, 2018 7:02 pm

It seems Transdev and CDC drivers are striking on Thursday in support of changes to pay and conditions: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/news/industrial-action-affecting-transdev-and-cdc-buses-on-thursday-16-august-2018/.

Also https://www.busnews.com.au/industry-news/1808/transdev-and-cdc-bus-union-members-unite-for-mass-victorian-strike-16-august.

It seems there's a downside to having large operators running bus services...

Transdev updated their Twitter account today with a message that NO Transdev services at all will be running on Thursday. Perhaps it really is time for Doncaster Rail...

Well we know that don't we Krusty!

You should have seen version 1 of the post... It would be interesting to know why those two operators are affected and not others, although it could be just a matter of time. A purely anecdotal data point is that I've never heard a Dysons driver speak badly of their company in public, quite the opposite in fact in all my time as a passenger on their services.

Funny that, passengers (such as me, admittedly) complain endlessly about abysmal non-compliant* bus services to the brick wall that is the state government, yet the unions can pull stunts like that and get immediate results every time.

*Apparently, bus services in Melbourne run from 6AM until 9PM seven days a week, which is why about 30% of them don't even get close to the finishing times and have Sundays or entire weekends off instead. I wonder what would happen to Metro if the last train suddenly finished at 6:43PM on Monday to Friday, ran hourly from 8:30AM until 1:30PM on Saturdays and didn't run at all on Sundays or public holidays.

From the PTV website and also the PIDs, it seems that the CDC / Transdev bus strike has been called off and all buses running as normal tomorrow, Thursday 16th.

Yep, confirmed the 5:42AM 901 to Frankston driving off as people got off the 5:43 Lilydale train and navigated the maze of escalators that is Ringwood station. Isn't public transport rivalry just awesome.

Yep, bring back the good old days of the Met where service coordination was promised as all services were now part of the same system*

(* where coordination = putting the train times in bus timetables, with no real change to the actual waiting times than before this occurred...)
