TBCS Annual Tour 2018 - Day 2

Post by Tas Bus Nut »

Day 2 proceeding took the group to the Tasman Peninsula. Before departure from Hobart, the group travelled to Tasmania's own Redline to view the Society's major restoration of Denning #39, a 1963 AEC Reliance / Denning, believed to be the last of this configuration left in Australia. With the help of a $50,000 Tasmanian Community Fund Grant, the coach has had the framework completely rebuilt. After a quick group shot we headed toward the east to Grand Touring Coaches. It was Grand Touring #71 which was our tour coach for the whole day, a 2003 Scania K124EB / Volgren WA 13.5m (ex TransWA 6) Unfortunately, most of GT vehicles were heading to Darwin, hence the quick detour to view the Society''s AEC Reliance. From Grand Touring we continued SE toward the peninsula, stopping at Belbins at Copping. Again, another photo opportunity before heading to Eaglehawk Neck for of lunch break and to ride Roger Self's 1927 Chevrolet sideloader. Lunch today, being supplied by Tasman Rotary Club. After a hearty lunch we headed further toward the Port Arthur region, veering off to Nubeena and Tasman Peninsula Coaches. It was at TPC, that we were back on track (ie: running late) so a quick return back up to Sorell (30ks from Hobart) to our last stop at Seabourne Coaches. Those with early flights unfortunately missed this stop, however Grand Touring kindly dropped that small group to the airport. The main group had the opportunity to photograph Seabourne's fleet (mainly school buses) before we headed back to Hobart in Seabourne's 1987 Mercedes Benz O303, with THE INFORMANT getting the opportunity to have a steer before jumping off at the airport himself. After another long day, and weekend, the remainder of the group arrived back in the City to complete another action packed enthusiast tour of the island state.
AGAIN, I wish to THANK all participants for attending and making it another great weekend and to the following operators for day 2 > Kirk Tracy from Grand Touring Coaches, Larry Mills from Tasmania's own Redline, Stacey Belbin, Roger Self and the Tasman Rotary Club for a beautiful lunch, Stephen Mundy from Tasman Peninsula Coaches and one of our regulars, Peter & Michael Seabourne. Many thanks for contributing to this fantastic annual event.
