Post by PaxInfo »

Main website budget.vic.gov.au

Key service related initiatives pasted from documents below:

* Service delivery: https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com ... livery.pdf

Business cases will be developed to improve passenger experience and access at key
stations across Victoria including Broadmeadows, Pakenham, Seaford and Kananook.

Additional train services will be introduced following the completion of level crossing
removals between Caulfield and Dandenong, the Mernda Rail Extension and the
Hurstbridge line upgrade.

Regional student passes will be cheaper to improve equity, affordability and better reflect
the scope of services provided.
This initiative contributes to the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport
and Resources’:
• Bus Services output; and
• Train Services output.

Regional bus service improvements will be delivered on selected routes to improve
connectivity and passenger accessibility. This includes service improvements in Bellarine;
Lara; Gisborne; Trentham; Junortoun; Ballan; Ararat – Horsham; and Donnybrook.

Regional rail services will be increased to improve connectivity and address overcrowding
on peri-urban services during peak times. Uplifts will include:
• 20 additional shoulder-peak services per week to and from Wyndham Vale;
• 15 additional inter-peak services per week to Seymour; and
• extending the operation of Southern Cross Station from 6.30 a.m. on Sundays.

Bus service improvements will be delivered to the metropolitan bus network on selected
routes to improve the connectivity of the transport system and passenger accessibility.
This includes service improvements at Moorabbin; Northland; Werribee; Niddrie; Victoria
Park and between Carrum Downs and Cranbourne.

There's 24m listed for train service improvements in the 18/19 year, and about 20m each year after that. That can't just be for the very small increases in service they've been spruiking recently. By way of comparison, increasing South Morang line services from every 20 to 10 mins was costed at roughly 5 million per year during the previous election campaign. Perhaps they have plans that they are looking at later in the year?

Although I do recall a few tens of millions budgeted for service increases in either the last or earlier budgets that did not seem to be used at all.

It has been reported that the Carrum Downs - Cranbourne route will also serve Seaford Station.

Also a video at https://www.facebook.com/NickforBentleigh/ refers to a new Chadstone - Moorabbin route.

I agree with Mr.Palvik in the last 4 paragraphs.
I think there was a lost opportunity with the Casey network upgrade last year with a Cranbourne-Berwick service.
I think there is some demand for a Carrum Downs-Cranbourne route.

Would it be wrong to assume the Victoria Park bus improvement is a dedicated shuttle service to Melbourne Uni & the Parkville medical precinct, as discussed in the recent Infrastructure Victoria 5 Year focus report and which would relieve overcrowding on the existing 200/207 Johnston St services?

Connecting at Victoria Park would allow the shuttle buses to make good use of existing peak hour bus lanes on Johnston St and connections to/from DART.

It could also be argued with more trains trying to funnel onto the same track between Clifton Hill & the City, adding an extra stop at Victoria Park for Hurstbridge expresses wouldn't cost much time given there won't be a clear run between the stoppers anyway. (Metro Tunnel 2 is the silver bullet for this problem in the medium term)

Kind Regards

Craig :-)

More buses along Johnston could also enhance the argument for even better priority & extented hours of the bus lanes.

News from the Border:

http://billtilley.com.au/archives/benam ... to-deliver

Tomorrow’s state budget looks at this stage to be a re-hash of old announcements, some motherhood promises to those of us outside Melbourne and almost a complete disregard for our needs in education, health, public transport and roads.

Maybe there will be a few surprises but this government gets all its big ticket items out of the way early in the piece and so I don’t expect any significant windfalls.

My wish list below is the real deal – it comes from talking to people in the electorate and understanding what is important to them, their families, businesses and jobs.

TRAINS

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: The Victorian Government should commit to buying new trains for the North East line and not just talk about money for planning.

What we want to see is a commitment from the State Government for new rolling stock, not a yes, we will do it at some time in the future type commitment, but a given date.

It will be either Labor or Liberal at the next election and we have made our position clear – we will have new, long-haul, modern trains running by 2022 on this line. They will travel at 130kmh just like the XPT, carry more passengers, have a buffet car and all mod cons.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: This budget should include increased funding to allow for extension of existing bus routes and addition of others to meet the growing demands of Wodonga’s urban expansion.

In real terms there has been no increase in funding for public transport in Wodonga for more than a decade.

Now the Labor Government is squeezing contractors with harsh new conditions around school bus services and public transport without acknowledging the challenges facing those living beyond the tram tracks.

He is An MP in the North East. The reason I put that up is because there hasn’t been funding on Public Transport in Albury/Wodonga and there has been growing demands across the region.

The Melbourne Uni - Parkville bus has been assigned the route number 202.

It appears in the September 2021 local area maps for Yarra and Melbourne.
