Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
400 & 410 with STA isn't surprising but will there be any changes to those routes. Though the m10 may go exclusive TSA though m10 will only last until next year when the SELR opens maybe similar for the m50. Some routes which are shared between regions particularly Eastern Region surely there would be bigger changes to the bus network once SELR opens.
Will TSA take any of 14.5m Orana buses or retired/transferred to other regions ?

It would be interesting to see if TSA really intrudes right into R9 with routes to Coogee and Maroubra, that is where the STA network stricture becomes tricky.Frosty wrote:400 & 410 with STA isn't surprising but will there be any changes to those routes. What routes are you thinking of there? I think that is all STA.

370 would be the "grenade" that neither operator would want...my money's on STA!

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
I think M10 and M50 are both STA with M20 and M30 more doubtful.
But we are speculating - hopefully we will soon know for sure.

I believe that routes 305, 370 & m20 may be retained by STA.Ray wrote:Isn't interesting how every single "50-50" call about which routes fall into Region 6 seems to be falling in favour of TSA, if rumors are to be believed?
Only the 400 seems to be staying with STA.
Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
M20 would make sense to be retained by STA considering no section of the m20 goes into Region 6. 370 is probably one of those routes neither TSA or STA would want though I wouldn’t be surprised if some changes are made to it either before or after SELR. I would bet the 370 is either STA’s worst or one of the worst performing routes.
What about the 348 and 308 considering they could both be operated by either STA or TSA.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
I'm inclined to say that all of the Metrobuses will remain with STA, along with 348, 370, 400, 410. 308, 389, 440 are the ones I would say are leaning TSA way. You would also have to consider the 352/355 and then routes that could be R6 or R7.

A few of the folks on another forum are saying that M10, M30 and M50 are definitely going to TSA.
Can't see 352/ 355 moving to Region 6 as Waverley has the shorter vehicles for 355.

So was my cynical imagination running wild in thinking region six will get the newer equipment to maximise the chances of success and public perception of a better fleet of buses compared to when the "gubberman" ran the show, to show that privatisation is the way to go?Fleet Lists wrote:Undoubtedly.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
Check the figures - there are over Ansairs in Region 6 - probably the region with more than any other. There is no way that they can replace all those by the end of June with new buses.
And then it depends who decides where the new buses go. If it is purely left in the hands of TNSW there would be something in what you say, but if it is State Transit itself, they would be stupid to makje the opposition look good.

I never thought such a decision would be up to the STA for one nanosecond.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
You are probably right there but even then it is part of each region's contract as to how many new buses they get so they can not direct all new buses to the one region.
STA would have every right to complain if it did happen.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
I will start scratching my brow if we see non wheel chair Oranas getting dumped at other STA regions all of a sudden and the exodus of well liked buses like the 5 speed B12BLEs, diesel 0500LEs, EuroV B12s etc in large numbers to region six depots just before transition.
Let's hope this scenario or something like it is confined to my imagination.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
If it is anything like the handover of regions 1 and 3 from CDC to Busways and TSA respectively - any bus built after a certain date had to be handed over with the contract. (I forget the actual date I am sorry). This way depots about to be taken over cannot be flooded with old buses. Any bus built before that date is retained by STA and may be sent elsewhere.
CDC didn't have to hand over all Region 1 buses to Busways; just those built after a set date.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
That would mean all the Oranas would be cascade to other STA depots, however I think that KD kept nearly all if the buses up in Newcastle when they took over.Geoff wrote:If it is anything like the handover of regions 1 and 3 from CDC to Busways and TSA respectively - any bus built after a certain date had to be handed over with the contract. Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
I agree - however in this case, which is similar to Newcastle, I suspect that the fleets as they are at the region 6 depots will be totally transferred to the new operator. An exception may be the 14.5m buses which are used mainly on the 400 by K, but may no longer be required for that purpose if as expected, route 400 will remain with the STA and those buses may go with the 400 to STA.Geoff wrote:If it is anything like the handover of regions 1 and 3 from CDC to Busways and TSA respectively - any bus built after a certain date had to be handed over with the contract. Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
Fine, but don't expect replacement buses in return until after the transition and then you can apply for new buses from TNSW.J_Busworth wrote:That would mean all the Oranas would be cascade to other STA depots, however I think that KD kept nearly all if the buses up in Newcastle when they took over.Geoff wrote: CDC didn't have to hand over all Region 1 buses to Busways; just those built after a set date.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
The difference here is CDC is a private entity, STA is part of the government. The government has the ability to move assets around entities without incurring an overall cost, in this case from STA to TNSW for lease to TSA.Geoff wrote:If it is anything like the handover of regions 1 and 3 from CDC to Busways and TSA respectively - any bus built after a certain date had to be handed over with the contract. Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
I don't think that there will be a mass flood of older model buses transferred here and there as TSA will have to continue maintain the fleet age of vehicles, (individual buses, depot average and region average) just like STA have been doing so. There would be an expectation of an incumbent business upon taking over another business or contract that a viable business is handed over with the smoothest possible transition - supposedly with no games, tricks or surprises that would cause problems.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
If STA keeps the 400, it will be interesting to whether the remaining 14.5s at K are transferred to TSA, transferred to a R9 depot such as P or disposed of.

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising
The earliest 14.5s turn 25 this year, so I think they will take the opportunity to dice them before hand over.
