Sydney terminal today.

Post by boronia »

There is a short window of time around 0700, when there are FIVE XPTs and an XPL tabled to occupy Platforms 1-6; this window is only about 5 minutes, so a late arrival can easily spoil it.

This weekend the Elvis Festival at Parkes has consumed the Dubbo XPT set for a few days, replaced by 3 car XPL.

This morning the UP Casino XPT was on time, so I was very fortunate to be able to capture four XPTs and two XPLs neatly lined up.

Yesterday, both XPL sets occupied Platform 6.

Nice shot, anybody seeing this would think that NSW had a fully functioning regional passenger train network rather than the tokenistic one that we really have.

Both XPL sets occupied platform 6?! Was there such a shortage of available platforms?

Yes, there was a big occupancy by suburban sets due to the cancellations.

Hence five measly minutes.
Four XPTs represents eight Paxman powered ends. I hope this isn't the whole fleet!
After viewing driver's view YouTube videos of England's superior version, it will be a shame when they are retired, despite being repressed by our operating conditions.

That shot reminds me of a line up of TGVs at Gare du Nord. That makes it tragically ironic.

Any French (or European train station) - There's a shot of London Waterloo when Eurostar used to go there with the whole bunch of intercity and suburban trains.

The paintwork is very clever at disguising their age.
Are they having trouble keeping the old ten pots going?
I have a feeling their replacements won't look as sleek as these 1982 sportstrains.

I remember seeing a railway promotional sketch poster quite a few years ago that depicted a V set with an XPT nose.

It would be nice of they could wrap one in their original State Rail livery in 2022 - to mark their 40th anniversary. The hype they generated was palpable at the time of their introduction.
