Metro's NEW Integral Bustech XDi #800

Post by Tas Bus Nut »

Last year, the Tasmanian Government announced a contract for 100 new buses to be built for Metro. The contract was won by Bustech, with the prototype built at Bustech's QLD factory. The remaining 99 will be built in Wynyard, on Tasmania's NW Coast. Featuring 51 seats, Thermo King airconditioning, low-entry, ZF axles and gearbox and Cummins 300hp Euro 6 engine. Today I had the privilage to drive it for my 1/2 shift. With a longer wheelbase than Metro's other 12.5m buses, it was quite heavy in the steering, and you had to watch yourself round corners. The Cummins engine is very responsive and eats the big hills (something the K230s lack :( A couple of little quirks like all our buses, but basically a good city vehicle. Unfortunately, the passenger seats are terribly uncomfortable, nothing that additional padding wouldn't fix.

Quite heavy in the steering Vern PLUS you must have foot on brake pedal before they move away from stops. Can't shut the door, drop the handbrake and pump it into it, as you won't move   Can't complain about the power though, very nice

Surprised it's heavy in the steering Neil,
You can"t do anything in these new buses without having to have your foot on the brake (like gear selection)

Steering issues Same as the CDi

Are you able to have a shot from the driver seat for the view of the nearside mirror?

Assume you mean clear sight in NS mirror OLYMPIAN :?: I personally don't have a problem, although there is still the windscreen partition in the driver's view (where the windscreen meets the curved section), something that I advised the union when they went to look at the prototype in build, but wasn't rectified.

Why don't they redesign the dashboard? It looks too old.
