1136 bus had a fire at Paradise Interchange this afternoon. At this stage the amount of damage isn't known.

There should be a record kept of which ones haven't yet caught fire for the respective year/month.busrider wrote:1136 bus had a fire at Paradise Interchange this afternoon. At this stage the amount of damage isn't known.
The ones that have held out well without any real obvious issues (from my obs) are 1109, 1127, 1137, 1145, 1153, 1157, and 1166. The rest all seem to register as having diff issues, being out of service for rebuilds, poor ride quality, or at least something! 7 out of 66 (minus 1120) isn't too bad for this chassis.

We’re gonna run out of O-Bahn artics soon if we’re not careful
Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
4 out of action 1161(write off)-1136(tonight)-1113 and 1162 have been out of action for several months!

That sounds similar to a comment I made in 2015, so I'm surprised this haven't received a satirical reply.mmosca447 wrote:We’re gonna run out of O-Bahn artics soon if we’re not careful
1161 has been retired? What will replace it? I'm fine with 2801 (possibly renumbered 1000) going back on the track if it's needed .jibb wrote:1161(write off)

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
I think if any existing artics were to be put on the track, they'd be K360UAs.
Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
Damage has been estimated at $100,000-quite substantial.busrider wrote:1136 bus had a fire at Paradise Interchange this afternoon. At this stage the amount of damage isn't known.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
Just curious, exactly which O'bahn buses are off the road at the moment awaiting repairs?
And what's happening with 1106? It seems to have some very audible issue that I can hear from 600 metres away.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
I am sorry but they are passenger service vehicles and none of them should be having these on-going issues. As with anything mechanical things go wrong so then it gets fixed. Unfortunately, in today's climate the attitude is wait until it breaks then fix it rather than preventative maintenance.TA3001 wrote:There should be a record kept of which ones haven't yet caught fire for the respective year/month.busrider wrote:1136 bus had a fire at Paradise Interchange this afternoon. The same could be said for Port Adelaide. Buses 423, 432, 1002. 1008, 1248, 1302, 1334, 1501, 1512, 1731, and 1953 are all ones that have had signs of very poor maintenance, even for prolonged periods of time.Stephen G Lucas wrote:

1953's like some of the O'bahn artics with that loud whine in motion, and it's been like this almost since it was new.

Why on earth does a public holiday 228 have 80 minutes to get to Smithfield? You could leave VS3 20 minutes late and still get there on time. It used to be 57 minutes at night.
Fast services pigs bum!

Apparently some services had good loadings today. LCB didn't have any Artics in use even on the O-Bahn where they could have been put to good use.
I did see an Artic on an H30 approaching Paradise Interchange late this afternoon. Torrens Transit seem to be happy to use them on weekends and Public Holidays, whereas LCB only use them during these times on the O-Bahn.

Heavier loadings than expected? I don't think there were many if any Southlink artics out excluding in the hills (possibly, didn't check).jibb wrote:Apparently some services had good loadings today. LCB didn't have any Artics in use even on the O-Bahn where they could have been put to good use.

Lonsdale almost never use them on weekends except on overnight shifts. Aldgate/Mount Barker would possibly feel obligated to use them on Sundays due to high patronage levels being predicted with the 864s being all stops at hourly intervals with no 861 to cater for the overload.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
I am on my 7th bus today. Even the 415 I caught at 3:51pm had 7 passengers.
Both my 451s (even the one at 10pm) had good numbers on them.
And, I saw a Torrens Artic on a 230 around 10:55pm at Ovungham.

Adelaide Metro are running extra services into the City during the morning on the O-Bahn(544 from Tea Tre Plaza)and the trams. There will be additional services from the City in the afternoon on both those services.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
Today i rode on 3016 railcar which has had the "gunzel" window at the lead railcar end ( & TVM end) frosted out with a sticker treatment or similar... is this the beginning of the end to the 3000 series "gunzel"windows? Any info from those in the know?
It was also a surprise to passengers on the 1548 ex Adl to Gawler Central service that at Salisbury we arrived into platform 1... passengers ran from platform two which is the usual weekend and P/holiday service... delaying the service a few minutes. The 1621 service ex Adelaide as well arrived platform 1. Managing the use of the switches on an extended long weekend perhaps? Perhaps this is just like the nightly last two trains servicing platform 1 at dry creek usually ex Adl.

And how many full buses were there on the O-Bahn with full rigid buses? As far as I'm aware none. There are about 40-43 seats on those rigid buses and there were nowhere near that number of passengers on any service that I saw on Christmas Day.jibb wrote:Apparently some services had good loadings today. On the other hand, all O-Bahn buses I saw today for Boxing Day were artics and they were very busy, even the extra services. Now that's what I call good use of buses, using smaller buses on a very quiet day and artics on a busy day, not putting artics out for the sake of it on a quiet day.

For what it's worth, hopefully it's not too late, Merry Christmas to all Bus Australia members and have a safe and happy start to 2018!

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
The lovely 1781 did a 196 today at about 4PM. It managed about 3 kph up Kalyara Rd hill flat out. Is this really desirable for metro bus operations? It was amusing nonetheless, albeit weird as. It was about the same pace that 1601 managed earlier this year (still with minor CNG intake issues).
I know that there's a diesel only policy with Torrens Transit and this route, but occasionally a CNG bus may be the only choice .

Just wondering about 892, 1601 & 1679, will they be returning to their homes if they haven't done so already or have they been transferred to Camden Park permanently?

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
1679 has been at Camden Park for at least a couple of months now.
It could have been a random transfer to meet shift requirements, that doesn't involve Newton being deprived of one their CB80s.
BTW, no bus could ever be considered 'at home' at Newton. It is a form of detention for any AdMet bus that has been unfortunate enough to end up there. 1636 and 1637 are not excluded from this category.

For Gunzels interested in catching the “one-off” services, the 150s scheduled to connect with the 157s at stop 18 are showing the destination 150W

Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
Saw a herd of artics crossing from Grenfell to Currie earlier today that had the word Disabled in white-on-blue over the front door and Entrance in large white-on-green stickers over both sets of rear doors. Anyone know why they have been marked as such and what they're going to be used for? It's hard enough monitoring who validates and who doesn't on a normal bus so if this becomes AdMet's standard boarding practice I just won't bother in future.
Re: [Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations
Following the launch of all door boarding on the 17th of December on the O-Bahn, all the O-Bahn fleet seems to have these signs. The front door sign states Accessible Entrance and middle/rear door signs state Metrocard entrance. Everyone I've seen use middle/rear doors is validating. Essentially it is the same principle as the tram where there are multiple doors and no staff member oversees validations.Skexis wrote:Saw a herd of artics crossing from Grenfell to Currie earlier today that had the word Disabled in white-on-blue over the front door and Entrance in large white-on-green stickers over both sets of rear doors.
