Milsons Point Wharf reopens 26 November
Monday 13 November
The existing wharf at Milsons Point has been undergoing expansion work since April 2017 to improve the wharf function, access and comfort.
The new design enables two ferries to berth at the same time which allows for more frequent and reliable services along with faster boarding and disembarking times.
Access to the wharf has been improved with a new access ramp from the wharf to Alfred Street and new stairs providing access to the foreshore from the wharf.
The upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, which involves the progressive upgrade of ferry wharves across Sydney Harbour to improve the capacity, comfort and safety of wharves.

Umm, surely this is satire?
Ferry McFerryface to be name of new Sydney ferry after public vote
Ferry McFerryface to be name of new Sydney ferry after public vote
http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-1 ... fmredir=smRun a competition asking Sydney to name a new ferry, expect the outright silliest name to win.
Ferry McFerryface is now officially the name of the last ferry in a new fleet of inner harbour vessels.

Re: NSW Ferry Discussion
Victor Chang and Fred Hollows were commendable choices. Why not be abit silly. It's nice too see Andrew Constance had a sense of fun by his full endorsement of it. Sydney has become too uptight lately.
News reader Mark Ferguson on Seven News remarked that they must have been drinking when they made that decision lol.

How can some meaningless fun generate so much angst?

Re: NSW Ferry Discussion
Australians don't like anything too challenging to the norm. They are irreverent on one hand but FEAR and LOATHE anything they consider not normal or a "regular occurrence".
I have a lot of admiration for Andrew Constance here, dragging Sydney away from it's mundane existence. I hope they don't capitulate to the naysayers. The union needs to stick to it's knitting and stay out of this affair. It's really non of their business.

No. Just a typo I'd say. Disgraceful that it obviously hasn't been allowed back into Darling Harbour after being "temporarily" relocated for wharf repairs, thus destroying its financial viability.boronia wrote:May have been refurbished and recertified in 1950 ??

Have you been seeing your doctor lately?Swift wrote: I have a lot of admiration for Andrew Constance here,
Well, it's good to know that he'll be reversing his decision on the Gong Shuttle because naturally he won't want to be seen as a hypocrite.
This guy was beamed down by an unseen force as part of a secret campaign to make Michael Costa and Carl Scully look good in the history books.
And yes MUA is refusing to run the ferry. Good on them.
Somebody on another forum has named him Gomer Pyle. Look it up.Editorial from Tim Blair:
The Daily Telegraph reports:
Maritime Union of Australia Sydney branch assistant secretary Paul Garrett said ferry staff would boycott the new vessel, which is due to start service on November 26, saying the name was an “insult” that will last for decades.
“Members don’t want to crew the vessel,” he said. “It’s an insult to the integrity and heritage of Sydney Ferries, it undermines the professionalism and pride of the fleet.
“This is not a five-minute internet sensation — this name has to be around for 20, 30, 40 years. This vessel will be left alongside the wharf until further notice.”
Mr Garrett said maritime staff would only crew the vessel if it was renamed.
“Give it a proper name and we’ll work it. Give it a stupid name and it can stay at the shipyard.”
Transport for NSW received more than 15,000 suggestions in the Name Your Ferry competition.
Mr Constance defended the chosen name, arguing “the community has spoken”.
The community should be invited to come up with a new name for Andrew Constance. Let them have their say, minister.

I make no apologies for being in solidarity with Andy on this one. MUA's Paul Garrett and his members are overreacting.

It's official - The newest addition to the Sydney Ferries Fleet is called "Ferry McFerryFace" according to a public vote. Looks like Sydney Ferries may be the source of a new meme in the near future. . .
