I've seen high floor Volgren 23 (still in the old Grenda livery) in Ringwood twice this week. Seems to have a nice new LED desto that other buses would only dream of having. I also saw a CR227L at Ringwood station, which seemed unusual compared to the usual buses being a mixture of bubbles, CB60s, CR228Ls and the odd Optimus or Gemilang.

Yesterday rode on 323, ex Ventura L113CRB still with Ventura livery, drove OK, but now feeling every bit of it's almost 24 years. Still has no desto, just a piece of paper with 284 written on it. At least put in an old flip dot desto or something.

All it needs is some spit and polish and it will last another 20 years. The Volvo and Scania high floors of that era are virtually indestructible.

In recent months I have seen many PTV Livery buses on the 901. In fact it is common-place. Is this a change of PTV requirements that the SmartBus Services no longer need to be in their livery.

SmartBus services do not require SmartBus livery but must still meet the qualification to be a "SmartBus", in that it must be low-floor, air-conditioned, and be fitted with PIDs.

Well, at least the low floor and air conditioned part - I've been on a good number of non-SmartBus vehicles on SmartBus routes, usually of the CB60 Evo 2 design (mostly the DART routes but occasionally the 901 as well - I don't catch the 902 or 903 so I can't comment on those).

I consider the Optimus and Gemilang buses to be SmartBuses as they have been fitted with PIDs and audio announcements, at least with Transdev's ones - I don't believe Ventura have added PIDs to their Optimus fleet yet, just the old "hide-the-Next-Stop-light-in-the-PID-box" trick like the late model CR228Ls.

Some of the Optimus at Oakleigh Depot have PIDs fitted for use on the 703. The 900 is still all CR228Ls.

Kind Regards

Ah, my local Ventura routes are either Knoxfield or Lilydale, everything else around Ringwood is by Transdev.

A sight that I have seen a few times at weekends is an articulated bus such as 2001 operating a 908 shuttle from The Pines to the Doncaster and Park and Ride with perhaps two or three passengers in Lynwood parade. These passengers of course have to transfer at the Park and Ride to an overcrowded 907 to the city (if there is any room on the inbound 907 at the P and R)
Surely a better option would be to ensure that the artics and larger buses run on the 907 at weekends?
After 33 years of commuting by bus, I now have a Seniors Myki and two more hours a day not stuck in Victoria parade on a Transdev bus.

Surely a better option on the weekend would be more SmartBus services instead of the sheep paddock frequency that puts the SmartBus brand to shame. I can't think of any other "smart" public transport service which runs every half an hour all day and finishes at 9PM sharp on Sundays. No wonder Hoddle Street is always packed. It's already a joke that the 216, 220 and several other city buses run several hours later, much more frequently and aren't even SmartBus routes.

In the case 907 & 908 they already got upgrade to 20 minutes during day on weekends last year.
The main reason for overcrowding on 907 on weekends has been due to fact 908 only goes to Doncaster Park & Ride in off peak plus apartments being built along Doncaster Rd. With more apartments to be built plus redvlopement of Eastern Golf Course into housing 907 will only get busier, in which case its probably worth running 908 to City full time to ease preesure on 907.

Weekends the Artics dont stay on same route all day, each one ends up on 905, 907 & 908 part of day. Ideally be better if just used on busy 907.

Presuming it works, would it hurt to check the fuel gauge occasionally, before it runs out, so arrangements could be made to swap buses, or get it refuelled.

Seems pretty poor that no alternative transport was provided.

I suppose that if you paid for a taxi at your own expense, you'd have a good chance of claiming back the cost of it from PTV.

Noticed during this week that Transdev #8385 has recieved the “ironing board” security screen commonly found on most other Volgren’s particularly at Ventura/CDC etc.

Any idea how long it has had it for?

Today at Box Hill, I spotted 803 the Mercedes 0405NH acquired from Panorama on route service doing a 281 to Templestowe. First time I have personally seen one of the secondhand 800 series 0405NH's doing route work. It was in snowflake livery with Transdev decals.

Wouldn’t be surprised if these are regulars over the next few days with so many Transdev buses out of service due to safety defects

A few sightings from this afternoon during current vehicle shortage:

Jay Tee 0681AO (Volvo B10M, Volgren) in Portsea colours appeared to be on a Whitefriars school run turning from Mitcham Rd to Springvale Rd at 15:40 with a Nuline coach behind on a W11 service

#800 (ex Buslink O405NH) on Marcellin - Donvale run, was back in Doncaster Depot at 16:40

5783AO & BS00MP from Quest through Doncaster Junction 15:57, the former on K51 ex Kew Schools to Dovale and the latter after an unknown school run turning left from Williamsons Rd with a navigator in TDM uniform

Driver #43 (Denning Phoenix Low Floor - Cat, Custom) on unknown school run through Doncaster Junction 16:05, driver in teal uniform

Kind Regards

Spotted on Friday morning was Driver Bus lines bus 42 (CB60 EvoII, Denning LF) on a school run with a Transdev driver supporting with directions.
Also seen but in the evening peak hour was Dysons bus 729 (Volgren CR228L, Scania) operating a route 251 to Northland with the Transdev driver in 'tour guide' role. Well done to Dysons for actually creating destination files for the routes, with a properly programmed front/side/rear destos for route 251 produced, to Dysons standards.
