Whilst I have no doubt that Mr Scania, with his background and experience in the industry, would be well equipped to undertake such a journey I doubt whether the same is true for the group of mainly young and inexperienced Canberrans.

To hazard a guess, Mr Scania has crossed the Nullabor more times than most of the people on here have pooed.
You didn't answer the original question? Which spare parts?
Daz.

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
Well Bully for Mr Scania. I really don't have to answer the question on spare parts, as I did not mention spare parts in any of my posts. I just mentioned the stupidity of driving a 35 year old vehicle over the Nullabor without a backup vehicle should you get into strife. I will underline, 35 years old. Not as if it is a coach either, it is a city bus and not designed for what it would be doing (Which is simply why it would not be a viable option to drive it back). Lemon is the one talking about spare parts, so he is the one to answer that, Daz.
Also 1whoknows, the people looking at it are mostly experienced drivers and middle aged blokes, some of the others are younger but looking at putting into it financially only. So no, it is not a group of mainly young and inexperienced Canberrans.
Basically, I don't know what the final outcome is for the vehicle. I have heard that the price for the vehicle is fine, however it is the cost to get it back here which is the problem. As I have said before, I have an ex-ACTION Merc in Sydney with a friend so I am not in negotiations this time around for 410 and won't be putting money towards it as my funds are tied up elsewhere.

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
If we can get the transport cheap enough I think that might be a good idea

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
Doesn't even have to be trucked all the way to ACT. If the bus is in running order, then delivering it somewhere closer to Canberra might be just as good, especially if it's being done at a reduced price.Guy_Arab wrote: Can I suggest you put a deposit on it and wait for after christmas a low loader is transfering a tram from Bendigo to the West a good chance it wil be returning empty I may be able to ask if he could return it East thence drive it to ACT from there

I hear it has since earned a stay of execution pending a visit to Perth by a Canberra-based member.

Guy_Arab,
Are you able to provide any contacts for who is shipping the tram westwards? All our attempts to find transport across the Nullarbor have resulted in rather high quotes. (Reply by PM if you like).

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
I guess we'll find out in late January on the tour.
To the doubters, spares are readily available for SL200s and as long as you take it easy going across, you'll be OK. My last trip was in 27 year old Fuji artics and we only had one minor problem. It's not as isolated as you would think.

Why not put it on a freight train to Sydney then drive it up?Lemon wrote:We would love to buy it, we just can't get it back to Canberra

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
It was decided to not purchase the vehicle many moons ago. But we did look into freighting it across and Pacific National would not transport a bus.Jasper wrote:Why not put it on a freight train to Sydney then drive it up?Lemon wrote:We would love to buy it, we just can't get it back to Canberra

What the??? Pacific National has transported buses before, they sent 2 Geraldton buses across to Adeliade maybe they didnt want to haul them to Sydney due to the tunnels there.

Re: Former ACTION preserved fleet members for sale
They may have offloaded them in Parkes. I am unsure of the details as to why, but I believe a few different companies were called from trucks and trains, it was found trucks would but for a steep price (Even on a backhaul).

I got a photo of both of them on the train before they left. I only noticed them when I was heading home from work!1whoknows wrote:and I have photographed BCI buses loaded in Perth still on the flatcars at Broken Hill.
