I wonder which batch of buses this will be? As 25 MAN's are on there way for this year & another bunch are due over the next few years.

Hopefully in this contract they replace the artic's.
Payback is a bitch, but is fun to watch.

Wrong again, we arent getting 25 mans, we are only getting 16..or is it 18? i keep getting confused..

No new artics have been budgeted for and are not needed, money is in the budget to refurbish them, so basically new gearbox and fixing any panel damage etc. although this has yet to start

So are we now getting 81 buses.....

I thought the ACT Government had said that Canberra would get 25 buses a year for 4/5 years? Unless that is what this batch of 100 buses will be?

It i pretty obvious to everyone it was a typo, why would be just suddenly get 17 or 81 buses?

We are getting either 16 or 18 MAN 18.310's

nothing else has been ordered but it is for 100 buses over four years or 25 a year approx.

From what I've been told, the current order is for 16 MAN CNG 18-310s with CB60 body (not sure if Evo II or regular).

After that, the next 100 new buses will be as a result of the tender process being commenced now. The intention is 25 per year over 4 years - 60 to be replacements and 40 to be additional to existing fleet. I'm also fairly certain that the new buses must be CNG-powered, so that probably rules out NCBC, P&D, Express and Bustech bodies.

What I hope is that the winning supplier(s) is chosen based on suitability to Canberra conditions and not just on price.

I would like to see a few new Artics - maybe 6-10 low floor MAN or Volvos for Xpresso services, but I don't think it will happen.

It is only an expression of interest at this stage, so a long way from an order being singed.

Now how come no one pickup the other tender in there, the demolition of the Belconnen Interchange and extension of Cohen Street?

Becasue that is old news & this thread is about the bus tender. It is funny haw the date of tender closing has been extened to 10/04/08. Mustn't of had enough expression.

What is old news is that they are going to move the interchange. What is new news (not reported anywhere else here) is that a tender has been put out for the demolition. It is on topic as we are talking about tenders.

BTW as I said the above is not a tender for new buses, it is an EOI. There is a MAJOR difference.

I note that the tender documents are free. Why doesn't someone try and download them and see exactly what they say.

PS. My experiance (in IT though) is when you go for an EOI you are not usually that specific. You just state a basic requirement and then the companies come back with various options.

I have just had a look at the tender documents.

ACTION have not left their options open. For example, a lot of rigid buses have more than capable engines with less than 200kW, yet ACTION requires that rigid buses have at least a 200kW engine. Also, they specify that a 5 or 6-speed transmission is required, which unforatunately rules VOITH out of the equation. Additionally, they specify that articulated buses must have an engine with at least 1100Nm of torque. Now 1100Nm of torque in a new bus will not move an articulated bus, so 1250Nm would be a more reasonable minimum.

Hi Dave,
Guess what? All 16 new CNG MANs for Action will have Voith transmissions (4 gears). How good is that?

The Voith transmission is well suited to the high-torque E 2876 LUH engine on the new CNG MANs.

Good choice, ACTION.

Thanks to my chat with T970 I can reveal that the tender is back, all buses are going to belco and they are diesel no mention of artics.

They will be MAN 18.310 diesel with CC CB60 Evo II body

About time Belco got some new buses. Good to see MAN got the tender, pity about the body choice though.
