The Public Transport Authority (PTA) has launched a trial of free wi-fi for passengers at specific locations across the Transperth network.

The trial will start at Elizabeth Quay and Subiaco stations and on board two buses predominantly operating on the high-frequency Route 950.

Two B-series trains, which operate on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines, will begin providing free wi-fi by the end of the year, with all locations operating for eight weeks from this point.

All free wi-fi zones will be clearly marked:

Guardian Express Newspaper wrote:FREE wi-fi will be available on Perth’s public transport network for the first time, with a restricted trial starting today, August 27.

The trial will take place at the Subiaco and Elizabeth Quay train stations, as well as on board two buses predominantly operating on the high-frequency Route 950, with passengers able to use up to 150MB per device in a 24-hour period. .

The trial, delivered by Optus, will then be rolled out on two trains operating on the Joondalup and Mandurah Lines later this year and will then be assessed to determine whether the system is rolled out more widely.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said Transperth passenger surveys showed passengers were already happy with services, but providing free wi-fi was something the Government was keen to trial to see if it could further improve the passenger experience.

Areas where wi-fi is available will be clearly marked with signage.

It is possible that two of the last 6 artics that were delivered (3097-3101) could be the wi-fi trial buses, while Sets 119 and 120 could be the trains. Optus will be providing the Wi-Fi, both this trial and if full roll-out goes ahead.

Wonder if maybe 1855's will be reinstated.

Does anyone know if 1745 and 2038 still have their Wi-Fi operational?
