Curtin central bus station
a new PTA project page is up about the new Curtin bus station which is due for completion mid to late next year
http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/projects/curre ... us-station
In partnership, Curtin University and the Public Transport Authority (PTA) are building a new bus station in the centre of the University’s Bentley campus.
At full capacity the bus station will accommodate up to 80 bus services during peak periods, future-proofing Curtin University’s public transport requirements.
The new bus station will include:
12 bus stands including two articulated stands
Six layover stands
Staff and passenger facilities including toilets
CCTV and digital passenger information displays
The PTA will be contributing more than $5 million to the $15M project.
Curtin will build the new station and hand over to the PTA for final fitout and commissioning.
Bus services will continue to operate from the existing Hayman Road Bus Station once the new Curtin Central Bus Station opens in mid-2018.

More about it is at https://properties.curtin.edu.au/ourpro ... change.cfm
Hope it doesn't add run time to bus routes, facilitates direct through routes and permits easy interchange with any future light rail.

There will eventually be a main transit spine north-south through the centre of campus which would enable light rail (or buses even) to use and connect with the bus station.
Re: Curtin central bus station
It seems that the campus will develop into two distinct sectors, so I can imagine that the Hayman Rd terminus will need to continue. Has anybody planned the detail of where light rail will fit into this though? Typically, like many new light rail projects, it would prefer a straight line and would continue along Kent St, as its ultimate destination is Canning Bridge, but this places it at a little bit of separation from this bus interchange. There would also need to be another tram stop further south to service the old campus.
If, on the other hand, the line goes across to Hayman Rd (which imho would be a good route) then it needs to have space set aside for it to exit via Brand Dr to get to Manning Rd and westward.
Shouldn't all bus stands be built as articulated stands, especially at a university? That just seems like sound long-term planning - like building new rail platforms to 9 car length! I don't know enough about bus stop design to know, for example, whether these bus bays at Wollongong University bus station are designed for artics or whether that extra space is simple pull-in/pull-out space for a 12 metre rigid?

Exactly the question I had! (Finally for a change I'm not disagreeing with you in some way! )tonyp wrote:Shouldn't all bus stands be built as articulated stands, especially at a university?
With what I've seen at Murdoch University, lack of room only creates chaos and wastes buses when several services are timetabled to depart concurrently.
The seeming lack of forethought, both in the Murdoch University's provision of (inadequate) layover space, and (inadequate) bus bays for service buses is astounding, as is the lack of room for expansion at Murdoch Station. It does work, but it could work a lot better... I sincerely hope someone keeps this in mind when they design the new Curtin University Bus Station.

There's some updates uploaded by Curtin Uni updates onto Facebook.
Starting service from Semester 1 2019.

There's another further updates for the station building. Will be opening on 17 February 2019, according to the information provided by the online timetable.

Curtin Central Bus Station complete
The $15 million project was funded with a $10 million contribution from Curtin University and $5 million from the Public Transport Authority, to create a regional hub to improve connectivity for the community.
At full capacity, Curtin Central Bus Station will accommodate up to 80 bus services during peak times, servicing the growing public transport needs of the nearby community, including Curtin University's Bentley campus, over the coming decades.
About one million public transport users pass through the existing Curtin University Bus Station on Hayman Road every year, with numbers expected to grow to four million by 2035.
The new bus station includes 12 bus stands (two of which are able to accommodate longer, articulated buses), six layover stands, staff and passenger facilities including toilets and CCTV, and digital passenger information displays.
Initially 944 scheduled trips will be operating in and out of Curtin Central Bus Station on a typical weekday, in addition to the existing services from the Hayman Road facility.
From February 17, routes 30, 33, 34, 101, 284 and 960 will depart from Curtin Central Bus Station.
Curtin Central Bus Station will be complemented by recreational facilities, retail outlets and public spaces to create an integrated transit oriented development hub.
