Finding Ex MTT vehicle original compliance details

Postby shark bus » Thu Feb 16, 2017 10:37 am

Hello,

I own ex MTT fleet number 21, a 1957 Worldmaster and I am trying to find documentation of it's original WA compliance details, in particular it's original GVM.

Original Leyland GVM certification or specs would be useful!

Does anyone know where I could find this information?

The concepts of "Compliance" and "GVM" didn't exist in 1957.

The best you could get would be the bare chassis weight, and the tare weight with the body on.

Your bus was fitted with a heavy timber frame body built by Campbell and Mannix when it was new. The chassis dates from 1956 and the bus entered service in 1957.

The old body was replaced with a new lighter weight steel frame body by Boltons body builders of West Perth in 1966. Whether that affects GVM, I don't know.

I may be able to get my hands on Worldmaster manuals or sales brochures, but it won't be before two weeks.

Compliance plates are a comparatively new innovation and were not around when 21 was in service with Metro Omnibuses and the MTT. Chassis and engine numbers were all that existed then. Your chassis number should be 560365. Its details would be held on the Trelis vehicle recording system held by the Department of Transport licencing section and available on a national data base.

What do you intend doing with the bus?

When it was last licenced they downrated the GVM for some reason.

Was hoping to get it raised to it's original GVM. Though it appears to do this I'll be required to go through a lot of paperwork and have it inspected.

Do you know how/why it was downgraded? Usually the vehicle has to be physically modified to bring it down eg, remove springs. Would have required an engineer's certificate to do this, and should have a re-compliance plate attached.

Getting it raised again would require another engineer re-certification, rebuild back to original specs, and could put the vehicle into a higher rego bracket.
