Perth bus over the edge

Post by Roderick Smith »

December 14 2016.
A police investigation is under way after a Transperth bus crashed while carrying 22 passengers on Tuesday afternoon.
The bus crashed down an embankment in Ascot about 5.30pm, coming to a halt just metres from an apartment complex.

The crash happened as the bus veered off the Great Eastern Highway, ploughed through a road sign and landed at the front of the Ascot Quays block.
Nine ambulances rushed to the scene before nine passengers and the driver were taken to hospital.

The bus driver and a passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital, while five people were admitted to St John of God Hospital in Midland, one to King Edward Memorial Hospital and two at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
It is understood none of their injuries were serious or life threatening.
"St John sent nine ambulances to the scene as well as an area manager and clinical support paramedic," a St John Ambulance spokesman said on Tuesday night.

The bus, a 296 travelling away from the city en route to the Perth Hills, veered off Great Eastern Highway down an embankment.
It is unclear at this stage what caused the bus to lose control.
A police spokeswoman said on Wednesday the Traffic Enforcement Group would handle the police investigation into the crash.

There was a small mention in the observations thread, but many interstaters probably don't read it.

Unfortunately, in the observations section, individual items are lost in a sea of others, with a generic heading. That probably suffices for most items and for locals.
This one was quite recessive:

There are a couple of videos and some pictures included in the link above, the first video is the dashcam footage of the accident and the second video is after the accident. Hope the driver and pax are all okay, St Johns have reported no serious injuries thankfully.

In North Korea, I was without internet for 10 days (it is banned). In China, Vietnam & Cambodia I had only intermittent access, and it was very slow and very flaky. I didn't even try to open ATDB for the duration. I had to start catching up in the Thailand buffer days, and when home. Hopefully I will be able to post some transport photos from DPRK, but all have to be approved by the tour guides first. Most vehicles weren't exotic, but we did have charters of home-built trolleybuses.

I originally posted this in the observations but just remembered a separate thread was created some time ago, the B12BLEA in this accident 3030 was originally registered until 30/06/18 however recently it has become unregistered.
