Bye bye TC plates.
According to the On Demand Transport unit of the DoT, all TC plates are to be returned in the near future and be exchanged for CVL plates - Charter Vehicle Licence. Work is apparently to start from 4th July.

I wonder if this includes all the SCV plates too?mrobsessed wrote:According to the On Demand Transport unit of the DoT, all TC plates are to be returned in the near future and be exchanged for CVL plates - Charter Vehicle Licence. Work is apparently to start from 4th July.

Re: Bye bye TC plates.
Has anyone looked far into the future regarding this decision?
There is only a finite amount of room on a number plate. What will happen when CVL numbers exceed 9999.
The plate will look really cramped when CVL 10000 is reached

Worth noting that the CVL plates are actually optional:drpeps wrote:Has anyone looked far into the future regarding this decision?

"Licensed Charter Vehicles can display either a state plate (ordinary or customised design) or a specific Charter Vehicle (CVL) number plate."
http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/taxis/ch ... .asp#37198 (section "Charter vehicle number plates").
I suspect that they're expecting some proportion of vehicles that fall under a CVL rego will simply fall back to a standard series plate so that they won't get near the 10000 mark, but time will tell. If not... well, WA has never seemed to have many problems with shoving as many characters as possible onto a licence plate (eg. eight characters including the "W" on a Euro-style plate), so I wouldn't put it past them to cramp it up
Re: Bye bye TC plates.
Assuming plates can be reused, I would have thought 10,000 plates was quite adequate for WA given that the TransPerth and TransWA fleets have their own series. Whilst we don't really know how many mining buses there are up north, the rest of the state would not have much more than 2,000 private buses.

But, do remember that the CVL aren't just for buses, so however many cars that were on the SCV (Small Charter Vehicle) would bump up the numbers.
Cheers!
