I know this is a discussion that should be on another forum so if it get's deleted then no need to tell me why! But while we are here, IMHO, I don't see the point in connections between the 930 and 21x routes from Thornlie. If passengers are coming from the city then they can take the train and connect which is quicker too! Same with Carousel - why not take the train or because it is HF, get on an earlier 930 to make sure you make the connection.Mr OC Benz wrote:You might be in luck. Looks like time changes to Routes 210, 211 and 212 from 26 June 2016 look to be addressing this. Although there's no updated timetable for Route 930 yet to confirm this.

Although I haven't seen it personally, if it's anything like similar set ups elsewhere in Perth, most people probably do transfer to the train at Thornlie if they are indeed heading into the Perth CBD. But you're forgetting that Cannington Carousel is also major patronage attractor for the region and that particularly for off-peak trips, it would be irresponsible to force transfers from a feeder bus at Thornlie when there is no real economic advantage to doing so. May as well give passengers a one seat ride where you can and maintain the same connectivity. Particularly given that the 210-212 routes are pissy little feeder runs now anyway.TP1173 wrote:I know this is a discussion that should be on another forum so if it get's deleted then no need to tell me why! Yes, the NH midi's at SR (1353, 1847-1850, and 1853) went up to Beenyup, 1542-1547 (I believe) went from Beenyup to Karrinyup, and 2017-2022 have jumped south to Southern River.
Cheers!

But what happened to TP1851? I believed that this bus might have moved from CV to Beenyup.

There is also the Bentley/St James and Victoria Park areas to consider as well. Back in the Busport to Gosnells/Huntingdale days, there were a reasonable percentage of passengers getting off in these areas having boarded south of Thornlie. Also, (revisiting) Carousel is not practical via train as it would involve a bus transfer at Cannington station to get there.Mr OC Benz wrote:Although I haven't seen it personally, if it's anything like similar set ups elsewhere in Perth, most people probably do transfer to the train at Thornlie if they are indeed heading into the Perth CBD. Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - May/Jun 2016
Just spent the last 5 minutes reading through this thread and came across some interesting findings!
One thing I noted, was that the Transperth fleet seem to get buses refurbished quite regularly. Is this a common occurance or did they all just happen to occur within the same month? This is nothing compared to here in Adelaide, the only bus I'm aware of that has been refurbished recently is Designline Olympus #1904 - back in service just last week after approx 2 years off the road! I'll be sure to regularly check this thread out for any further Perth observations

Perth's undergoing a refurbishment program to bring older low floor buses in-line with recent deliveries (new destos, re-trimmed seating, repaints, etc).
Cheers!

Riding onboard 1278 which looks almost as if it came out of refurb only today. I might be wrong but it is exceptionally clean (Brand new clean) and very new and I haven't seen it in a while!
Also, she runs like a bloody hare on steroids! Amazingly fast. Reckon it would give a V8 a run for its money!

I too read through the WA thread regularly. TThanks for explains the refurbishments, our older buses aren't looked after like that. I also read with interest that some of Perth's route are operated by two operators- very interesting considering that Perth has a very similar for of privitisation to Adelaide. I guess the government body (PTA, I believe) is responsible for planning routes, unlike in Adelaide where the private operators plant the routes.Off The Rails wrote:Perth's undergoing a refurbishment program to bring older low floor buses in-line with recent deliveries (new destos, re-trimmed seating, repaints, etc).

Sorry LT Commander you are wrong-the contractors do not plan the routes-they may have input to DTPI,who do all the route and timetable plans/scheduling.Lt. The Transperth bus network is split up into 10 contract areas which are serviced by 3 operators who are Swan Transit, Path Transit and Veolia Transdev. The mid-life refurbishments are carried out roughly on a 10yr age as they are currently refurbishing the OC500LE's which were built during 2005 and 2006. The PTA (Public Transport Authority) is responsible for planning routes and providing buses to the operators which remain the property of the PTA.
