Roadworks and road modifications will soon start
The State Government today announced work will commence to upgrade the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Fauntleroy Avenue in Ascot, in preparation for the Forrestfield-Airport Link.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said Main Roads Western Australia had awarded a contract to MACA Civil Pty Ltd to upgrade the intersection to cater for an expected increase in airport-bound traffic once Brearley Avenue was closed at Great Eastern Highway.
"This $4.8 million project is expected to be finished by the end of the year," Mr Nalder said.
"Great Eastern Highway will be widened to provide shared left-turn pockets, bus priority lanes, dedicated right-turn lanes and U-turn access for both westbound and eastbound traffic, as well as modifying the traffic signals.
"Later in 2016, the nearby intersection of Coolgardie Avenue will also be upgraded to provide dedicated right-turn lanes for Great Eastern Highway traffic in both directions.
"Both intersections are expected to be completed before the end of the year, in readiness for the planned closure of Brearley Avenue at Great Eastern Highway."
The Minister said the projects were the first in a series of roadworks planned to facilitate the Forrestfield-Airport Link, which required the closure of Brearley Avenue at Great Eastern Highway in order to develop the Airport West Station.
"Once this closure is in place, north and southbound Tonkin Highway traffic will be directed to the domestic airport through the new Dunreath Drive link,' he said.
"Only traffic heading to the domestic airport from the east is expected to use Fauntleroy Avenue to access the terminals."

Bayswater station could be sunk like Subiaco however it's not apart of the airport rail link project, the council is expected to have it apart of its structure plan

The Downer Bombardier joint venture has confirmed that an additional 10 B series trains will be delivered to PTA on top of the 22 that were recently delivered, these will cater for network growth as well as service Forrestfield Airport link when it's operational

There are plans to sink the Bayswater Train Station and redevelop the suburbs into a modernised centre.

Re: Mount Lawley & other 'minor' station upgrades
Considering a new station is to be built at roughly the corner of Second/Brearley Aves, is it too hard too imagine the 935 terminating here in its entirety, eliminating the need for pesky short journeys?
Considering that the current T3-4 are living on borrowed time (4 years?). So, when this precinct becomes not only a business park but a much higher density area.....well.....???
Cheers!

While I'm not sure on all the details, I think it would be fairly logical for present short journey 935s to extend to Belmont Station. It would be pretty silly not to, given the short distance and the fact it would also negatively impact on the important feeder aspect that the 935 will serve once FAL opens. Plus, the trips that currently operate to T3/T4 will not need to once consolidation of terminals is complete. So it could effectively be done without requiring many additional resources.
There is a possibility that the demand for travel to/from Belmont Station could increase to the extent that new short trips to specifically cater for increased patronage between Belmont station and the surrounding residential area and Belmont Forum will be needed. So much for removing "pesky short journeys"! Combined with redevelopment in DA6 and surrounding Belmont Station, Belmont Forum will still be the major retail centre for the region which will further reinforce the need for higher frequencies between the two nodes.

Re: Forrestfield-Airport Link Project
Hi. Just wondering does anyone know whether the airport link will be built with 150m platforms or 225? The plans for the Morley rail line show that platforms would most likely be extendable to 225m to accommodate 9 car trains. It made me wonder if there had been any forward planning for the same thing on the airport link.

Re: Forrestfield-Airport Link Project
The Brearley Ave between Gt East Hwy and Dunreath Dr will be closed from 17/1/17 to accomodate the FAL works. The only point about it was the Route 935 accessing to and from the airport. It will be very hard for the Bus to find a route to the airport T3/T4.

Will there be any problems with route 40 (delays etc)?
At first it struck me that the station on the domestic side was a long way from the terminals, but then I see that T3/T4 are moving. Will that be to the international side of the airport?

You'll be fine. Route 40 doesn't use the affected section of Brearley Ave and upgrades to existing roads will ensure Route 935 still maintains access to T3/T4.tonyp wrote:Just on the day I'm arriving in Perth.Shoudy Chen wrote:The Brearley Ave between Gt East Hwy and Dunreath Dr will be closed from 17/1/17 to accomodate the FAL works. Yes eventually all terminals will be consolidated to Airport Central (T1/T2 side), by about 2025. In the meantime, T3 will also begin operating international flights from 2018 to serve Qantas' new Perth-London route as well as their other international routes. The new Belmont station will serve a redeveloped mixed use precinct and commercial uses on the airport owned land.

I do hope they put up a bigger sign warning cars to turn onto Dunreath from Fauntleroy, otherwise the bus+Uber lane's going to get disrupted by private vehicles loading and unloading.
Edit: They have!

Already posted in service changes but I'll repost here as it relates to FAL
Transperth Website wrote:Route 935 - Service Changes
Sun 15 Jan
From Sunday 15 January 2017, there will be changes to Route 935 as a result of the permanent closure of Brearley Av.
Access to Perth Airport will change and services will no longer travel on Brearley Av.
The following bus stops will be withdrawn:
Stop 25528: Brearley Av after Second St
Stop 27261: Kanowna Av after Second St
Stop 25529: Brearley Av before Second St.
Route 935 will now service the following stop:
Stop 15574: Second St after Kanowna Av.
If you require further assistance regarding service changes or planning your journey, please visit the Transperth website or call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 (TIS: 13 14 50). Hearing or speech impaired? Call via NRS 133 677 and ask for 13 62 13.
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

I know that 94% of the FAL will be under the tunnel but with the permanent closure of Brearley Ave, will they make a new bus interchange?
