The incident you are thinking of happened three years later in Heathridge.adx666 wrote:Don't think so MBR1 as that was parked on grass which the hot bus exhaust ignited the grass which in turn set the bus on fire

Correct. That was 669. The one at Warwick was 483 from memoryPoweredByCNG wrote:The incident you are thinking of happened three years later in Heathridge.adx666 wrote:Don't think so MBR1 as that was parked on grass which the hot bus exhaust ignited the grass which in turn set the bus on fire

That's why I deleted my post, because I checked perthbus.info and it was definitely not 669,PoweredByCNG wrote:The incident you are thinking of happened three years later in Heathridge.adx666 wrote:Don't think so MBR1 as that was parked on grass which the hot bus exhaust ignited the grass which in turn set the bus on fire

478 was burnt at Warwick before the Northern Suburbs Line was open. 669 was burnt in the late 90's at Ern Haliday Park in Hillarys after it became stuck in hot sand.

Wow... now a diesel bus caught fire just to prove your point http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-16/t ... on/6625642
Now everyone is gonna scream that those busses go off the road too... what'll be left? a few renaults and volvos?
Disclaimer: The above is a joke... it is not your fault the bus caught fire.

Like I said PbyLNG - facts: The FACTS are that these are all explosions on gas vehicles. I don't care for the mechanical/technical ins & outs or smoke and mirrors cr*p. If someone is injured or dies....would you still give a tinker's about it either?

I can't believe they're trying to blame a coolant leak for this.
Since when, exactly, was a mixture of water and anti-freeze flammable? Sure, it can make some steam if it vents under pressure (although if that were the case, another course of action would've occurred), otherwise its just a drip and practically harmless.
The same applies to minor oil leaks, like one from the engine's valve cover. A lot of cars have this problem, and they don't seem to be going up either*
* As a matter of fact, my current vehicle does have a Valve-Cover gasket leak thats just starting to become noticeable. You get a little odour as the engine warms up of the residue burning a little.

It's called damage control, if they said they didn't know I'm sure there would definitely be a strike.Merc1107 wrote:I can't believe they're trying to blame a coolant leak for this.
Maybe the coolant didn't ignite... Maybe the engine cooked due to lack of coolant?

Let me clear something up.
Ethylene glycol, a component of many coolants / antifreezes, is flammable under the right conditions.

While it is incredibly inconvenient for everyone affected, in my honest opinion, I feel a strike could very well help to raise public awareness, and increase advocacy for action on this issue.LawBayly wrote:It's called damage control, if they said they didn't know I'm sure there would definitely be a strike.Merc1107 wrote:I can't believe they're trying to blame a coolant leak for this.
Yes, there is an inquiry into this incident, and there have been for the others, but whoever or whatever is responsible for these incidents needs to be confirmed in absolute certainty, and the problem resolved before we potentially endanger more members of the public, or risk loosing more of the fleet to fires.
As it has been said, we can't just take over 470 busses (a significant portion of Transperth's Fleet) off the road due to the problem and risk over-congesting the bus network, and straining what few buses would be left. Until such a time that these buses are no longer useful or economical, they need to be safe.
Now, as for the fire of the O405NH, that would almost certainly have to be a very unlucky coincidence, as it was last year for the two Malaysian B777's lost. I couldn't believe for a moment that a firebug is responsible for these two incidents. Again, its critical that whatever the cause is, is identified and resolved before it can further manifest, if it is indeed a fleet issue of some sort.

Geez, without all the posturing.....the rear hatch was lifted to "check" on the situation.
If proper training had been in place to prevent "that" (and it is not) then possibly this could've been avoided.
That is a fact, as tragic as the situation is.
I've spoken to many drivers since this latest accident occurred and no one seems to be aware of correct procedure.
Perhaps "hands-on" training to reinforce protocols is needed?
