The Uber ban is very restrictive of trade and anti competitive, it’s called competition and demand for Uber is very much focused on customer sentiment around taxis such as poor customer service, reliability and price gouging their monopoly

I've acknowledged in the past that Uber meets a demand. As I've also acknowledged, a significant part of this was caused by Government regulation, not the Taxi industry (although their attitude, perceiving they held a monopoly didn't help). The costs of running a Taxi as opposed to doing the odd job for Uber (or any other ride-sharing service) are astronomical.

The way Uber were 'legitimised' by the previous State Government was only a halfway solution. Reform of the entire industry is needed. I can't see that happening anytime soon, though.

Encouraging the use of Park & Ride facilities (including car-pooling, Taxis, Uber, whatever) would be suitable in areas where density is too low to support particularly frequent bus services. What you quoted was more querying why anyone would ride a Taxi, Uber or otherwise from "The Stix" all the way to the Stadium when it would be cheaper to use public transport for at least part of the journey. I suspect banning Uber in particular would be a financial deterrent, given the high costs of using a Taxi. It seems the idea is to push people towards using public transport.

There is a fair answer to this and that's to ban taxis as well, except for special needs passengers.

If there are too many taxis (and/or ubers) demanded, there could also be a danger that access for buses may become congested. I agree that the policy should be to use the taxi only to and from the nearest station or bus stop, not to the stadium itself.

Busdriver12, you'll be glad when that Byford electric extension comes. Then hopefully we won't need to have this discussion for your case and you'll be sitting on clover! 8)

At least taxis are readily distinguishable from cars and are readily available on sight, even more so than buses.
I think that qualifies them as public transport.
Uber are not open to all in the same capacity. In fact, Uber are in a position to block undesirable people from their platform (which they don't exercise enough by the sounds of things -another matter there!).

Looks like transport got a good panning on Transperth's Facebook page - lots of problems. Let's hope Transperth gets up the learning curve quickly.

I think I have to go and get my stomach pumped out looking at the photos of the food lol. And I though Perth was famous for excellent food!

That's a narrow minded view. If congestion was the real issue, taxis would be banned too with the exception of disabled taxi for passengers with genuine accessibility needs. Uber is a reflection of market demands and demonstrates that people will no longer tolerate being gouged by taxis.

Isolated problems though. Overall it seemed to go pretty well. Some bus overcrowding and issues with Armadale bound trains though. Of course refinement will be easy to make from the data they got from this event.

There are bound to be a few little teething problems with such a big project. I'm confident that Transperth will master it with their usual aplomb. All the buses serving at events should be artics.

One little issue that comes out of comments is that after all the spectators are whisked away, the staff who have to stay behind to clean up and close down have no public transport on which to leave themselves! Nor is there any means of visiting on non event days (or people who work there throughout?). One wouldn't want to slow down the Armidale line by having a permanent stop there, but maybe a bus link to Burswood and/or Victoria Park transfer station? A couple of comments also asked where Ubers could drop off and pick up. I guess the answer to that is the nearest station.

I like the nickname that's emerged for the stadium - the craypot. :lol:

Not sure on the future, but for now, it sounds like that will not be happening.

Also not sure on how they plan to monitor patronage on the routes, as the public transport for ticket holders is free on the day of the event, and I haven't heard anything about head-counts being done. I guess billing information might be used to roughly calculate where the patrons are likely to originate?

Regarding bus transport after hours, it seems the bus station itself cannot necessarily be used for that purpose, as it functions as a car-park after-hours. :?

I believe that special event transport in Sydney is programmed on this basis.

I understand that they count CAT patronage by counters at doors and surveys.
