Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?

Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
Two things about the 1962 map:
1. Scarborough Beach Rd was known as Scarborough Rd in 1957. The SBS depot whose address was given on the 1957 timetable cover had become the MTT depot (probably in 1958 when the MTT was formed - did this coincide with the scrapping of trams?).
2. Some routes (eg Grantham St) were shown darker. These appear to be trolley bus routes since it matches up with http://www.sfu.ca/person/dearmond/argu/Perth.OH.map.jpg

Pax, the map was given to me by a chap who was here visiting for those games....he merely pencilled in the routes he travelled and/or that interested him - that being as you correctly saw...the trolleys!

That location at the top of Main St was the Motor Body Builders (MBB) site if I remember correctly. They built quite a few bodies for the Scarborough buses.PaxInfo wrote:Scarborough Beach Rd was known as Scarborough Rd in 1957. It's all been demolished now as Brady St runs right through it.

I used to work at Hungry Jacks Innaloo in 1980 (2nd year High School), and remember:Scottwa2468 wrote:I grew up not far from Innaloo bus station an from memory these services ran from there

268 was Express Perth - Scarborough (via Freeway & Scarborough Beach Rd to Innaloo BS) then all stops to Scarborough Beach, & vice versa.
(during the day, these services were always operated by bumblers)
269 was all stops from Freeway to Scarborough Beach, and vice versa.
266 was peak express both ways, Perth - Innaloo.
the Bus-only Freeway on-ramp is still there, beside Glendalough Station. The off-ramp was "removed" when the station was built, and the bus station is now in its place.

Ooops Drunk moment
Of course the 381 still runs from Warwick to Freo, for some reason I got confused with the 458

I think that was the renumbering of the 928 & 929 services along the coast to 582 & 592 before the 458 took over from them.esperanceguy wrote:I don't remember a route 592...

Sorry if this isnt particularly obscure, is anyone able to post the TT and map for former route 270? (Canning Vale area, withdrawn March 2004)

The 270 ran between Kenwick station at the entrance to Crystal Brook caravan park. The terminus turnaround is still there and I believe it is used by school buses (don't quote me). Below is a snip of the map and a link to the timetable can be found here900 series wrote:Sorry if this isnt particularly obscure, is anyone able to post the TT and map for former route 270? Apologies for the delay, but since I have started from scratch I have to wait until my post count increases to a point where my posts appear immediately.

Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
A lot of the school services that operated through there were absorbed into the 279. I don't think anything uses the turnaround anymore, although Street View from August 2014 has the bus shelter still standing there. Pretty cool seeing what were once some far flung or out of the ordinary bus services.busdriver12 wrote: The 270 ran between Kenwick station at the entrance to Crystal Brook caravan park. Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
I still remember the old route 221 which serviced kenwick to maddington via crystal brook caravan park which had a very poor service long before routes 229, 230 were introduced.
As this thread has been reignited. I'll throw a couple more services that are long gone.
357 Saturday - Yanchep to Perth
165 Fremantle to North Fremantle
77 Perth to East Perth Terminal
196 Riverton Bridge to Willeton

Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
When Swan operated school services in the area I recall one school run which did use the turnaround. It's been a while, so can't recall the details but I did see it mentioned on a worksheet.Mr OC Benz wrote: A lot of the school services that operated through there were absorbed into the 279. Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
I used to enjoy doing different and obscure routes... but the one that always gave me trouble was the 343 from Bentley to Morley. I probably only ever ran half a dozen of them (and most of those trips with deviations), and it was probably more luck than anything that enabled me to get from one end to the other....

Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
Just a few posts touching on the above mentioned:
Jase.....the 221 lived long but didn't prosper..... _\\//
upload pics
196 Feeder from an inspector's timetable. Most of the direct services were through-routed to Claremont...
Ye olde 77...
Anyone remember the replacement - the brief-lived route 6?
The 357 from Yanchep...
Route 165...
Regarding the 343 - it's predecessor was the 345
We often ran these in panthers, was a good old run
Before being renumbered over the 345 the 343 ran this service....anyone remember?
.... and it was earlier renumbered over the 290 service...

Some of these are already covered in this thread. Funnily, I pulled out the 38-39 today to post in near future....more forgotten than obscure.

Re: Obscure & forgotten services/other - who remembers?
Any idea why on the 14/11/1999 Armadale 5 timetable the 221 has four trips to Kenwick on Saturdays but only one trip in the other direction?
I guess it's not much of a problem, as people could just catch the next bus in either direction, and then take the train to their final destination, but it seems strange scheduling.
