An artic observed on the 998 today. Is this common? I was on a very crowded 999 yesterday and the driver kept the centre door open to allow faster boarding through both doors. Very sensible.

- Haven't seen many artics operating either direction of CircleRoute before.
- Never seen a driver keep the centre doors open just to let people board other than on CATs, although I agree, it was sensible of the driver.

Furthermore, everybody who boarded through the centre door tapped on, contrary to PTA's major reason they don't allow all-door boarding on paid services! People can be more honest than they're given credit for.

Artics are only a common sighting on specific Circle Route services, typically the short-working double-banks in the peaks. There are only a few "pinch points" on the whole service and crush loads do clear quickly.

I personally disagree that boarding via the centre door was "sensible" (let it be said I have nothing against the concept, though!), and it relates to passengers tagging on and off. I believe that attempting to tag on at the centre or rear door(s) can result in passengers being charged a default fare; have seen a number of instances of passengers tagging on at the rear or centre doors only for the SCV to tag on with the low-tone beep/yellow light indicative of this. Need to investigate further to confirm whether or not this is really the case.

There are a few artics on circles throughout the day, Canning Vale often sends a few of theirs out in the mornings which don't run full circles, ending up in Freo around 9am ish.

The only full circle I'm aware of that's always an artic is the 1115 998 out of Freo (arriving back at Freo around ~1440) which is always one of Freo's B8s
Currently working on my bus photography site where I'm aiming to photograph every Transperth bus in Perth - currently 100% complete as of May 2019!

Evidence from other states as reported on this forum is that these readers are all set up to scan both boardings and exits regardless of which door they're at. I don't see why any agency would bother programming scanners to record exits only.

In Perth, they have always been set by default for tag off only at the centre/rear doors. I believe similar case in QLD. The setting can be changed in the ticket machine by the driver to allow tag on/off at the centre/rear doors if required in special circumstances. The current ticketing system places heavy emphasis on drivers to help manage fare compliance, so the only reason it is probably set that way is so that passengers are forced to enter through the front door where the driver has greater ability to ensure everyone has a valid ticket.

Don't think it has been mentioned before, but B-Sets 123 and 124 are in service now. 125 may potentially be as well, though I haven't yet seen it.

I guess in this instance the driver either reset the reader or those boarders will have a blip in their Smartrider accounts! In fairness it was a huge crowd (mostly school kids) that packed the bus to capacity and it would have taken ages to load if they all came through the front door and the bus would have been late.

A rare sighting as Adam's Swan Valley Explorer O405NH's such as B91 were seen parked at Ern Clark Athletic Track in Cannington for a school sports carnival today. I do have photos which will be posted on wikimedia.

Looks like it’s so sad that Swan Valley Explorer had ceased service from 5 June 2019.
