Leyland Tiger TL11 Motor noise

Post by Tigermotorhome »

Hi guys,
I'm a newby with a frustrating problem. I have a 1986 Leyland Tiger with the TL11 engine. I've converted it into a beautiful motorhome but have an annoying ( a little worrying ) clacking sound. It does not clack at the same rate as the engine etc but sounds a little like a nut caught some where and then every now and then guts hurled around a metal cover etc?? It's not constant it comes and goes and I don't think its the compressor as on start up I can hear the compressor doing its job. Hope that makes sense? So just wondering if there's any suggestions or any good Leyland mechanics out there?? I've had the tappets done ( no luck )
Thanks in advance :)

We had similar at last service, turned out to be balance weights on the alloys had decided to come loose, so hard against the wheel when travelling, but as soon as we slowed down noise came back. Takes a while to find some of these. According to the guys I use, 95% are non threatening as in no motor blow up, just have to spend the time finding them

Come to think of it... the motor idles beautifully but it does seem a little lumpy. Thanks so much as yeah when accelerating no sound but power down and it starts to creep back in.
Where are they located??
Ta again.

Hmm possibly but that was more a Volvo thing to split them. I did have a thought it might be compressor blow off tick (when unloader is open and resinates) but its really hard with out hearing it

Couldn't be tired oil and a worn hydraulic lifter/lash adjuster could it?

Are all the basics definitely right? Correct grade of oil, not tired oil, filter not full, pressure within specs, etc.
Air system doing what it's meant to?

My volvo had "a noise" that I couldn't figure until just the other day.
Intermittant, low rpm or idle only, clacking.
Tightened up the alternator mount an VOILA, all fixed!
