78 8V71 Denning.

I had a look at a 78 Denning 8V71 non turbo with a 13 speed Road Ranger gearbox.

The owner claimed the economy is 4km/litre is this even possible.

Is a Road-ranger box more economical than a spicer and is a 8V71 more economical; than a 6V92??

This rig has a quite an impressive electrical/solar system.

Sadly there is a significant amount of metal maggots, some I feel I could deal with some I'm so sure.

So the asking price of $85 may be a bit steep, no sure they'd be happy with my price.

Both upper sides were re skinned with marine windows fitted.

I like the storage of the tag axle, but maybe I 'll have to stick with Mercedes I have my other eye on.

Seems the current owner purchased without asking many questions and doesn't really undestand the solar/inverter system.

I reckon 4km/l is on the optimistic side of an 8v.....
There should be LESS storage in a tag compared with a 2 axle of the same length....

I think the fuel economy would be between 2 to 3 km's per litre.
My Isuzu gets around 5km per litre but is a single axle and is a lot lighter than a tag axle Denning.

1978 most likely a Denair , most I drove back in the late 1990's were full of rust
If you can get one from out west they might have more life left in them away from the coastal salts.
Make sure you also check the roof air-conditioning structure as they used to leak into roof supports and
cause massive rust issues up there.
1978 should have been full air , before that a lot would have been air over springs which a lot had cracking issues.
