Turbo charging SL200

Postby Romen2 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:04 pm

Hi there to all in bus land!
I am currently living in and travelling in our converted 83 MAN SL200. With it full of water and pulling the trailer we are weighing in at about 17.5 tonne. We worked out our fuel consumption and we spent about 45 mins climbing a range out of Casino, locked in first gear and doing 20klm per hour. We got 2.33 klm to the litre. I am not disappointed with this figure and would expect to get 2.6 to 3 ks per litre on a open road.
We are currently in Toowoomba and I happened to pass a large workshop specialising in after market turbos for trucks and buses. I am just curious if anyone with a little knowledge might shed some light on the pros and cons of fitting one.
Any feed back would be great
Cheers
Russell

Just wondering if you had my more information on the turbo. And is the only to increase the speed from the diff or is there something on the gearbox and or fuel pump.

Simply, If you go for a faster diff you loose climbing capability.

With the turbo refit, have a good check around. Cant just bolt a turbo on, need to set up a vacume advance off the pump ect ect.
Leyland SOLD, now its time to work on the AEC
