Working for Ventura whilst at University

Postby Preston » Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in applying for Ventura, however there are a few things that I would like to know before I do, mainly what they require of me.

I have done some research and I know I need a Medium Rigid (MR) licence to drive a bus (the training which they do provide). I also know that I need to hold an Australian licence for at least 12 months. Does this include the Probationary licence? Because the Vicroads website only says an 'Australian car driver licence.'
Also must I be at least a certain age to become a bus driver?

Finally, if I do get enrolled, I will be attending university. Will I be required to fulfill a certain amount of hours per week? Or are there Casual and/or Part-Time opportunities for Ventura employees?

Sorry if I have displayed any naivety, as I am still in the process of learning how all this works.

Thanks, Preston.

In Victoria, you need a Driver's Accreditation. To get one you need to have held a full Victorian car license for at least a year. Therefore you would need to be at least 22. I'm trying to do the same but I cannot get a Driver's Accreditation for a few more weeks.

They are not likely to fund your MR license for a casual position. I got mine off my own back, it was expensive but I expect I will look favourable compared to someone who doesn't have all the required paperwork already.

Alright I see, that's a bit of a downer but it does make sense.

Thanks!

I think you have to be fully licensed, i started when i was 21 in 2007. Rules may have changed since. You couldnt study and be a driver at the same time. Too many hours, not enough study time. Try working in a supermarket. I've done both and would kill to get back into that job.
My daily cruiser is a two-door turbo merc.

I think you fitting your uni commitments around drivers rosters and expecting Ventura to fit your rosters around your uni commitments would make thus a very difficult to impossible arrangement.
