Professional Drivers

Skybus "Airport. City. The way to go" is looking for Professional Drivers to join our World Class Service. Operating 24/7 between Melbourne Airport and Southern Cross Station, it is a fast paced customer focused environment. We currently have positions available in all divisions being Express, Carpark and City Transfer.

What you must have:
* At least 2 years experience driving "Heavy Rigid" vehicles
* World class Customer Service Skills, be more than just a bus driver
* Enthusiasm and passion for the City of Melbourne and what it has to offer
* Immaculate presentation and excellent verbal communication skills
* Work autonomously with a focus on continuous process improvement
* Be accountable for a desired outcome

You're in the know about these things, TF. What are the usual working hours per week? And how does the pay compare with coach work and track work?
Also, do they take casual drivers?

Full rotating roster 24/7. 5 days (mixed) with shifts working from 7.3 to 9.25 hours. O.T. is offered (6th day) on a fair rotating system. Roster structured to accommodate for every second weekend off.

Sounds alright doesnt it John, Better than driving those 400 speed B quadrupals :lol:

If I didnt own a bus company, I think the casual work would be quiet fun meeting all those foreign glamours that arrive in our big city for some fun times, but I suppose I'll stick to the drunk ferals, thats more my forte! :|

I am going oversea's for 2 months to europe in July, so I will be interested to see a bit more about the buses and coaches over there! But Im not taking photo's, just walking around in a pair of speedo's with a camera around my neck screams tourist, I want to blend in and enjoy the ride! :wink:

Tulla Flyer, Does the Heavy Higid still allow you to drive the super longs and the bendy's?

Im sure there will be some very hot applicants on the list of track drivers who would love to drive 15km in a straight line each way! 8)

Yes, You can drive the 14.5 and the Bendy buses on HR.

The more applicants the better. That way Skybus can make sure the service on offer is world class. It really is a great job for people with a passion for what they do.

Its surprising that this day of age Skybus would be able to find people with over 2 years experience happy to do the seemingly boring job with very little prospects. If you were a world class driver i can think of many more exciting bus/coach driving jobs than driving back and forth from the girlocked airport every hour! But goodluck to Skybus in finding "world class drivers" Could be a long wait!

Some people are happier doing something simple like that, Exposer. Me? I prefer my "400 speed B quadrupals" :P The Hume Fwy is a damn sight quieter at 3 am than the Tulla Fwy, in fact the Hume is a damn sight quieter at midnight as I fly along the Albury bypass than the Tulla ever will be. But it doesn't hurt to know of the other fish in the pond. ;)

"Girlocked"? Sounds good to me.. 8)

Seriously though, I've watched them in operation, and a lot of it is about professional customer service, something many people are simply not capable of. I don't think they'll have any problems finding people - seems like a pretty good job to me. If you were worried about traffic jams, then you probably wouldn't be an urban bus driver at all.

old thread re-visited!

Was shocked when a mate of mine told me that these drivers even get paid $23.50 flat even when they do the night shift with no penalty rates, better rates sat night and sundays, flat on weekdays! :shock:

Wow, I reckon the bloke at 7/11 would earn more than that sitting there playing on there phone drinking slurpees! :lol:

Driving a half a million dollar vehicle in business type attire, offering outstanding driving skills and customer service, well In my eyes there must be a better dollar than that to be made. :roll:

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought i would bring up an old thread in disbelief. :?

$23.50 - my counter jumpers used to earn that! Something is horribly wrong if it is so low when you have all those lives to look after....

Now we're back here, perhaps someone could explain what this "professional customer service" was?

On the few times I've used it, the driver did very little except drive. Other staff supervised passenger loading, pax had to load the own luggage, many drivers didn't even manage a smile for the pax.

I suspect this operation might have a high staff turnover?

I agree Boronia,

I have been on there too and basically the bus pulls up, everything is sorted and ushered by staff outside the bus, money is sorted outside the bus, so the steering wheel attendant is there to steer the ship in my eyes! Maybe its due to the $23.50 that its hard to get a smile from the driver @ 2am.

In theory these drivers that hold great responsibility and tight time tables are getting paid similar to the airport car park drivers that shuttle a couple of passengers in a van when they fit it in to there busy schedules! :|
