I believe it would only be HR as it's treated as a 3 axle vehicle, same as an MR towing a trailer.

Same here in WA. HR is required for artic. Quite a few drivers have been recruited with an MR licnese which only allows them to drive only a rigid i.e. 2 axles.

You can do it in a synchro - i.e. get a HR synchro licence. No need for crash-box (HR non-synchro) licence as most artics are auto these days, as far as I am aware.

Geez vx255, that seems like the hardest test in the world with Ventura. I have seen people get CEO roles with less pre work required. Well done for having the nerve to bother through all that, Im sure it will pay off for your hard work!!

In Victoria, we don't have "Heavy Articulated" class license anymore. It's now called "Heavy Combination" and is required for semi trailer work or rigid/tipper and dog work. B-doubles, triples, road trains, etc. all fall under the "Multi Combination" license category. Hence, my thought had been that artic buses, being essentially a "rigid & dog trailer" vehicle (well more like a pig trailer, but anyway...), it'd need a HC license to drive, not just a HR.
It seems my thought was incorrect however, so no problems.

Hi PKM, please do say hello, I'll be the one nervously fidgeting, wondering what I've gotten myself into

Do you know if they train the new drivers in small groups or singularly PKM?

Well it varies week to week. Last week it was 4, this week it's 6. Other times there has been 2.
If I was a betting man I would say there'll be 4 or 6 new drivers.

What happens is that you are spilt into pairs, then you go with one of the driver trainers (one of them would have done your driving assessment). You then spend first 2 days doing a lot of driving and being assessed, in particular on Tuesday. But the trainers are good and do everything possible to help you through. It's important to listen to instruction and show you are keen to learn and take feedback.

If you want to, send me a PM to know more

Thanks for the info PKM, I'd love to send a PM for more info, but I still appear to have every post moderated and don't have PM access.
Not sure if I need to change a setting, I think I've shown I'm not a spambot :D

I'm still nervous about transitioning from truck to bus, but I think as long as I can lock in a routine (i.e. stop, hand brake, etc) quickly, I should be ok, It's good to hear the trainers are helpful.

regards Eddie

Hopefully that has now been fixed.
It appears as though posts in the Employment Section do not count - this needs to be investigated.

2 Days of training done, Monday was pretty cruisy, paperwork and some DVDs followed with a drive down to Mornington and return from Doncaster. Tuesday (Today) involved plenty of Roundabouts, chicanes etc around Oakleigh, Knox and Donvale, The day was finished on a low point after finding out one of the 8 of us that started didn't cut the mustard as far as negotiating some of the chicanes, so has been asked to attend some further external training and then they'll reassess him, which seems pretty fair, but not good to lose a class mate. I've been getting acquainted with a U.S. Buslines #28 B10 Volvo.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we start late, and have some new low floors to play with. It's been great so far, really enjoying the challenge of migrating from truck to bus, at 40, it's not often you do something for the first time anymore. The Doncaster drivers have been great to chat with, and the instructors have been very helpful.

Sounds good Eddie; hopefully that guy will get some training over at TIDE. It made all the difference for me.

Still waiting to hear, got through the medical, so hopefully I'll be in soon but I guess there are no guarantees.

Is that Volvo the same one you were in yesterday? Have fun with the low-floors - I guess that must mean they trust you now.. :P

Yeah Peter, same one, I have heard that they have been a bit of a victim of their own recruitment success, and that HR have been swamped, I'm sure your number will come up very soon, the fact they paid to do your medical must mean they're interested.

Looking forward to seeing the difference 20yrs makes to ergonomics and general niceties when we take the low floors out
