Melbourne West

Postby MiniNut » Mon Jul 16, 2012 9:27 am

Hi all,

Due to a change in home situation it appears I'm going to have to move from Melbourne's east side to the west.. around Altona. Anyone know if there's any bus work available or whom I should approach? I've not spent a lot of time over that way but it appears I soon will.

Cheers
Craig

Maybe give Westrans a ring - they've got depots at Altona, Sunshine and (possibly?) Werribee (?) They are always looking for drivers.

Or drop into one of their depots. That might even be better.

And if you do go in for an interview go in around 0900 (they will have past their morning peak by then and will be more likley to be abel to talk to you) and turn up looking like you are ready to work - dont' wear your uniform but I would suggest wearing something that looks like a uniform like a plain coloured shirt, tie and a v-neck jumper. I'd suggest bringing in a photo copy of your licence and your DC, working with children certificate, etc. if you already have them (which i guess you already would). And if your licence is clean why not also bring in your VicRoads print out - even a small photograph of yourself dressed as a driver (or maybe in your old uniform in front of yur old bus). Of course if you have references etc this would be relvant too - but if you are still working this may not be possible. And if you know someone who works at that particular depot i'd suggest you ask them to introduce you. The best jobs in this game are offered - they are rearley advertised.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Hi all,

Yes, I looked up Westrans the other day and gave them a call. I went in this morning to the Altona depot and filled in an application, so we'll see how it goes. Sadly Croc, I did it on the way to work from my new girl's place so I was in my Ventura uniform LOL. I did have all my licences etc on me so no dramas with it.

Demon.. which depot does the orbital run from? I'm hoping that I get work at the Altona depot as it's only a quick trip from where I'd be living.

Thanks all though. Will keep you posted

Oakleigh, Nth Fitzroy & Altona, Why would it have been an issue wearing a ventura uniform?, I would have thought it would help you not hinder you...

Turning up in uniform will be okay. They know you're a driver then.

I've met people ut on the road and then had phone calls later offering work or people have offered to introduce me, etc. If you look the part and are clearly driving something that gives you some credibility or have a snow licence, or know the way to Sydney, etc. it all helps. \

Good Luck

Had a phone call this morning guys, to set up a driving test some time next week so it all looks good, so far.

The reason I'm moving is to start a life with a wonderful lady who has 3 kids. As someone who doesn't have kids, let's just say I'm a tad nervous. I'm hoping the hours at Altona may be a little more kid friendly than they are at Knox though LOL. Not working quite so late as Knox all the time but will take it as it comes

That could be a challenge - you'll be in a relalationship with four people plus you. At least the work should be similar to what you are currently doign with Venture. Imagine how hard it would be if you were also starting an entirely new job in a new field.

Good Luck

Firstly, good luck with both the job and the new relationship.

But a question if I may. With the sudden growth in size of your family....can we expect you to be purchasing a new vehicle and renaming yourself HummerNut soon??
