Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
Rather than having 229 running from city surely a modified 229 could be run between Mawson Lakes Station and Para Hills via Pooraka
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
The 229 only runs from Adelaide during weekday peak, possibly to improve service frequency between stops 17 and 25 Main North Rd. But the time saving is minimal between stops 17 Main North Rd and 2 KW Rd. They should stop picking at stop 25 in my opinion. Good luck convincing the DPTI to make this change. There are several reasons why it shouldn't occur.
- It would skip the portion between Prat Ave and Muriel Dr which is where 80% of passengers tend to alight.
- Not everybody prefers train travel, especially at night.
- No guaranteed connections either way.
- The walk from Adelaide station to KW St and reverse can be treacherous for some, especially after dark. It's also uphill, and with the pedestrian underpass closed after hours, it's even worse.
- The current 228 service amounts to roughly the same travel time as the train would (factoring in 9 minutes to get from KW St to the station). The main problem with the connection is seat availability on Sat/Sun mornings when boarding at Gepps Cross, since the artics are generally preoccupied doing near empty 224s. It should connect with the 222 instead.
Also, it would use extra kilometres for an inferior service. If it was viable, it would be implemented by now.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
I find it interesting that one of the first real major city events (not Adelaide oval centred) is due to occur and the plan is to change the tram patterns-that you have spent the past few months trying to establish with everyone.jibb wrote:Details of Public Transport services for New Years Eve/Morning are now available on-line at Adelaide Metro.
No trams servicing festival plaza stop, botanic trams terminating at RAH stop with the Glenelg service thru running to Adelaide Entertainment centre.
Is this a deliberate attempt to stifle tram use and claim further criticism on the expansion project?
News Corp.will surely have a field (day) night reporting the empty (or full) abandoned Plaza platform.

Four or so trams stoped on North Terrace near Parliament House unable to proceed in either direction due to a signaling issue

1977 was involved in an MVA recently in the vicinity of Addison Rd, due to some crazy driver supposedly attempting a Carmageddon 2 style 'cunning stunt bonus' in real life!

1977 was indeed involved in a rather odd accident, but it happened on December 14th, not today.

The post above mine originally stated that the accident happened today, it was edited after I made my post. Perhaps you could've read the line at the bottom of that post before making yours.

Does this spell the end for 1627?
Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
Soo far today no Torrens Transit MAN SL 202 CNG buses in service-probably not till Monday 7th January 2019. Also no MAN NL 202 buses in service.
Many TT services running late as they are operating to a Saturday timetable with less running time than a normal weekday.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
I had a look on the app and noticed 1765, 1679, and 1771 roaming around. Last year Newton had one or two high floors out (during the service cuts), as did Morphettville. If there are the same number of shifts as what there were last year, then it's surprising that there are literally none out today, and presumably for the rest of the week.
But perhaps the shifts have been arranged so that no depots get short enough on buses to necessitate dispatch of a high floor. Personally, it makes for a very boring scene without the SL202s out. 1333, 1337, 1338, 1738,1739, and 1740 can be seen on almost any run from first to last. The ones at Newton that are not mentioned in this list seem to be bottom of the barrel for some strange reason. 1337 did the 5:36PM G22X last week, which was done by dull Scanias every following day for the week.

TA 3001 are you still using "my stops" app? It was updated yesterday to reflect all the changes over next 2 weeks.
I emailed the provider of this app yesterday to try and get it updated has he is not able to keep it going, which is shame,as it is the only app that I know of that supplies fleet details on trips.

TT made a liar out of me,just saw 874 heading up Morphett Road(NIS) to the Marion Interchange.jibb wrote:Soo far today no Torrens Transit MAN SL 202 CNG buses in service-probably not till Monday 7th January 2019. Also no MAN NL 202 buses in service.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
The other thing to consider would be maintenance requirements. If most/all low floor buses are out all day, will they be able to meet all servicing and cleaning requirements? If the SL202 buses are hardly used or two weeks then they should be very clean and have had plenty of time for maintenance by the time they return on January 7th! For this reason I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of high floor buses from some depots out and about over the next couple of weeks.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
Most seats in the 1600s are covered in hairs and other debris from my observations. No difference between the now retired Mile End ones and the current ones still in service. They'll often be there for weeks. It's harder to notice on the tartan seats due to the colour differences.
It rubs it in when you see passengers who intend to sit on the seat only to find that it's filthy, and hence they look for another one.
I doubt that the majority of the low floor washing machines would be on the road from first service to last, excluding the CB80s and the Bustechs. Any gas bus at Newton is a nuisance to them (low floor or not), and hence only dispatched when there are no alternatives.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
With a significant redistribution of buses by Torrens late last week, Camden Park depot is now an “all diesel” depot. The SL high floor gassies to Mile End and the NL low floor gassies to Newton. Camden gained a heap (approx 20) of CB80s and BusTechs from Mile End.
Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
Wonder what will happen to the gas facilities at Camden?

It seems as though they'll become redundant, and possibly removed.

Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
As the number of gas buses diminishes, especially with the high floor SLs quickly disappearing, less facilities to maintain.
Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
Torrens Transit fleet allocations has been updated today to reflect these and other changes, including more MAN SL 202 retirements.TT wrote:With a significant redistribution of buses by Torrens late last week, Camden Park depot is now an “all diesel” depot. Re: [Nov/Dec 2018] SA Transport observations
I wonder if 1631 will even turn a wheel in service at Mile End. Or will it's only run be down the road to the Morphettville graveyard?
