[May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
A southlink scania rigid bus broke down on the southbound carriageway of Main North Road by Fremont Park in Elizabeth this afternoon.
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.
Re: [Mar/Apr 2018] SA Transport observations
Notice that at Morphettville Depot all the midis bar 1 have been removed from the bus yard?
Re: [Mar/Apr 2018] SA Transport observations
Just reported O-Bahn closed due to bus breakdown-not sure of location.
Re: [Mar/Apr 2018] SA Transport observations
AdMett website at 0925 reported breakdown in tunnel and at 0950 that problem rectified.jibb wrote:Just reported O-Bahn closed due to bus breakdown-not sure of location.
Re: [Mar/Apr 2018] SA Transport observations
Incorrect - the breakdown was at the Park Tce exit towards the city.PD2/20 wrote:AdMett website at 0925 reported breakdown in tunnel and at 0950 that problem rectified.jibb wrote:Just reported O-Bahn closed due to bus breakdown-not sure of location.

Thus the tunnel closure resulted from the detour. This is not obvious from the Admet post.Due a mechanical issue with a bus, the #OBahn tunnel is currently closed. Buses will detour on the road network.
Re: [Mar/Apr 2018] SA Transport observations
The tunnel was not closed. Just because buses are detouring away from the tunnel does not mean it was closed. Outbound buses were still using it and depending which way buses were coming from, some inbound buses could have used it if required. Most "in service" buses would have detoured via Payneham Rd and Botanic Rd.PD2/20 wrote:The Admet website stated:Thus the tunnel closure resulted from the detour. Railcar 3136 has been seen out in service today on the Gawler line this afternoon - new paint job
Railcar 3128 also in service in the same paint job also on Gawler line this afternoon.
Railcar 3116 also in service in same paint job on Belair line this afternoon.
Are these being prepared ready for future electrification service? No obvious refit inside.

The O-Bahn track will be closed for routine maintenance next Sunday 20th May between Tea Tree Plaza Interchange and Paradise Interchange. During this time buses will detour via North East Road.

Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
Seaford trains are being replaced by buses between Adelaide and Brighton after 8:00 PM on Saturday 19 May, Sunday 20 May; Friday 25 May and Saturday 26 May. Refer to https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/Announ ... d-Brighton.
The reason for the closure is to effect preliminary work on the Oaklands Crossing grade separation project. While not much, last night my observations saw a billboard being removed and a hole being dug. On-site staff were advising of a second billboard being removed and the hole being for a stanchion - the road is being diverted to accommodate the construction of the road bridge over the new railway alignment (a similar construction methodology to that used on the Outer Harbor line at Park Terrace I would presume).

Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
Just rode on repainted 3029 rail car...does anyone know if this has a new engine? It was grunting like a Vline velocity when the leading power car this morning, very noticeable and felt like it had faster acceleration. Could just be a mechanical fault though i genuinely believe it was a very different ride onboard.
Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
I went to the Public Transport expo at the Railway Museum today and it was a blast from the past seeing the buses from the 80’s and 90’s. Would definitely recommend but the expo finished today. Also a few very good condition 90’s Holden police cars

New engines - the original Mercedes V12s have been replaced with V8s.thedom wrote:Just rode on repainted 3029 rail car...does anyone know if this has a new engine? Also have new computer systems as well.

I think they've been repairlnted to match the 4000s, although someone more in the know may be able to give more info if they so desire.thedom wrote:Railcar 3136 has been seen out in service today on the Gawler line this afternoon - new paint job

As for electrification, the following is my opinion only. Give there's 15 new train sets being ordered as part of the Gawler line electrification, perhaps some of the 3100s may be converted as well.

When was the upgrade initiated? Is it part of the $48m railcar upgrade announced in the 2017 budget?Heardy_101 wrote:

To be honest, I have no idea. It would be my guess. I'm only going by what was posted on elsewhere by individuals who are usually reliable or "in the know"

Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
I have looked at the 2016 and 2017 State Budgets for DPTI. There is a 2 year $48m project for the railcars due for completion in June 2018. It is described as 'dedicated mechanical upgrade of the diesel railcar fleet including the overhaul of bogies, brakes and traction power systems'. The 2017 budget documents refer to upgrade of 50 railcars (the later Clyde built batch?). Whether the traction power systems overhaul actually includes engine replacement is not clear. What has been evident in the last couple of years is that bogies have been receiving attention with overhaul dates stencilled on the bogies.Heardy_101 wrote:To be honest, I have no idea. Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
You know how the ex Melbourne Volvos have now been transferred to Mile End along with diesel NL202's 1331, 32 & 34, I saw a post on an Adelaide transport appreciation group on Facebook that CNG NL202 1683 has been sent there too, can someone confirm or deny this? Also I haven't seen 1668 out on the road for quite a while & in fact I saw it on Friday on the Richmond Road side of Mile End depot as I passed by on my 167. I was thinking could 1683 possibly have been sent there as a replacement for 1668?
Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
I found this photo in the fleetlists. Is that "no entry" symbols on the centre doors? Why on earth would they have no entry when it's a free bus? I thought they would be the same as the Perth CATs, even more so now that AdMet has opened up all-door loading on the paid O-Bahn services. Completely irrational.
I am also wondering what's happening with the two electric buses and the new Bustechs. Are any more making an appearance in revenue service yet?
Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
The 2 electric buses have still not yet entered service. One of them is sitting by the fence at Torrens Transit's Mile End Depot.
The other 2 Bustech buses have been in regular service since last year.
Bustech are no doubt hoping that they will get a contract to supply buses to Adelaide Metro for the next few years. Tenders were called for the supply of 400 buses over 10 years last October with tenders closing in February.
As yet the results have not been annonunced?

Re: [May/Jun 2018] SA Transport observations
1901 isn’t only used on City Connector services, plenty of days (including weekends) it’s on normal route work. City Connectors can be just about any low floor Mile End bus: frequently (daily) Ivecos and Scanias (especially the newly delivered 1963-70). When on City Connector work people board 1901 through the centre door, just like they do if it’s an Iveco or Scania. And they don’t board through centre door when those buses are on regular route work, so no big deal about the “no entry” sticker really.
Speaking of “specialist” services, the J1X services seem to be just about anything recently: a couple of weeks ago I saw an ex-Darwin artic, then 1331, then an NL gassie (can’t remember but think it was 1760). At one stage J1X dispatches were only the decker and an Iveco.

Thanks. Sounds like the Fremantle CATs where people just ignore the no entry signs.TT wrote:1901 isn’t only used on City Connector services, plenty of days (including weekends) it’s on normal route work.
