Exactly the same as if a trip was entered - the passenger won't notice anything different on the validator. If you were to log in to the metroCARD site and check your validation history, I'm not sure what it would show in that case.

If no trip was entered though it shouldn't deduct a fare, I think. Wondering if this in in fact the case.
