[Nov/Dec 2017] SA Transport observations

Adelaide / South Australia Transport Discussion

Tomorrow I will be riding the complete route 300 from Arndale to Arndale. As the round trip takes more than 2 hours, is it safe to assume I will need to tap my Metrocard twice during the trip? (By the way, this is just for gunzelling experience, no commuting purposes)

No you won't, because it's the same as riding a 443 or 462. It just takes longer. If an inspector gets on, they'll just want to know if you've validated for the trip.

It's the same as validating just before the 2 hour window runs out on any other service. Just make sure you don't end up on an NL232 on this run, or you'll be stuck on one for the entire lap...

How'd it go?

Not so good as unfortunately other plans got in the way. I did manage to ride a few buses though. These being the 248, 681 (got a midi), the 288 and the b10 where I was let down by a Version 2 CB80.

I don’t know if this is unusual or not.

Gawler substitute buses are being run today by a myriad of third party coach companies.

I am at Mawson Lakes and Grants Coaches, Adelaide Coachlines and Alex’s Mini Charter are all here.

Are all available resources being utilised for the cricket?

The 6:27pm 361 did not operate from Port Adelaide last night. Cancelled due to lack of manpower.

While it did not bother me too much, several passengers were annoyed that the last service of the night was cancelled and they had to go through the city to get home.

Yes. Many full buses on regular services too. Wonder why Adelaide Metro chose not to run AO services to the match, only on the way home?
$2,500 fines for vehicles illegally using red Bus Only lanes - could cut the state's debt real quickly if they extended that to regular Bus Lanes!

And not necessarily on every route, nor any times published?
How do they decide how many buses on standby and what routes to use them on?
LCB didn't run any Artics(except on some O-Bahn services) on their services prior to the start of the cricket-wonder if they will use Artics at the completion of the cricket at 900pm?

Maybe they ran them as 544 as C1 or C2 would imply that it ran to the NRAH.

Who knows.

I hope LCB cops a fine for this. Disgraceful. I wonder if The Advertiser will hear about it?

I'm sure this has happened to all 3 bus contractors at some time.

Another big cruise ship, Ovation of the Seas (168,000 tonnes), is berthed at Outer Harbor today. And because the Outer Harbour train is still not running, Torrens are supplying a significant number of buses for shuttle work from the ship to and from the city.

I'd be more concerned that the last service of the day departed so early. 8.00pm would be a fairer cut off and yes, the Sadvertiser will hear of it however most people will be unable to see their whining article as they are paywalled.

Don't recall Southlink ever having to cancel a service due to lack of staff.

There were a lot of Newton CNG NL202s out today doing shuttle services to Outer Harbor, for the reason mentioned above, and even at least one SL202 doing one or two (1637, possibly due to a breakdown). I literally saw the NLs one after the other on Port Rd. The Newton ones are almost never out on weekends.

I thought the DPTI would want to provide 'premium' service to these visitors, rather than squeezing them into these old clunkers.

1637 was out due to no other low floor bus available at Newton depot

The 361 is primary a service for industry workers. As it runs only hourly though the day , the 1827 last service ex the port is ok.

Both the TTP side and the Port side have other services that run the same route,. The patronage in the middle is not very good duing the day hence they don't justify to run it later.

No sure where you get your data from. Most track services where artcs.

In fact 44 of the 80 track bues on the road where artics (55%)

Might want to revisit how you quote previous posts as if you recheck the thread you will see that first line does not belong to me.

On 1334 right now and it has a painfully loud indicator! It's like the reverse gear being active continuously. Must be a living hell driving it for the 4 hour long broken shift it's on.

It's almost deafening from the second half of the bus. Are all diesel NLs going to receive this upgrade, or is it a one off?

Maybe the indicator was accidentally wired to the reverse beeper?
