[Jan 2012] SA Transport observations

2368 is being cannibalised and will no longer see active service.

Is 505 still in service? 588 in the graveyard nooooooo!

2239 was involved in an accident with a ute today on Bridge Rd, Para Hills. The bus sustained reasonable damage:

Time to get bus priority and tram priority through the city and suburbs.
Time to police bus lanes which are used by arrogant car drivers.
Time to work for better timetables and better connections.

R565 seems to have vanished into thin air as well recently. This thing was unbelievably loud at speed.

Both of these buses seem to hame met their maker but I am a little unsure about 565. Like I said I will endeavour to compile a list of the buses that have actually been withdrawn recently. 2362 is currently in the rail yard also, not sure what it is doing there.

I've also spotted 2109 a few times in the past week or so. Just hope that they are not going to be permanently based up north. Can't see 2106-08 and 2111 following suit.

Also I don't see 2568-70 and 2572-74 up north much, despite being based at Elizabeth. Would be dumb of Southlink if they swapped Elizabeth Scanias for Lonsdale 'midis'.
Southlink's two competitors are: 'Scania-City Buses' and 'MAN Transit'. :(

I hope it gets back in service soon, I love the MAN NL202 buses.
Next station is Keswick, change here for trains to Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney :-)

Just saw tram 351 on a low loader turning from Addison Rd onto Grand Junction Rd at Pennington, heading east. Wonder where it's headed for?

2554 covered the 1530 ex Mawson GA4 trip today, not sure why this occurred, presumably due to another Merc breakdown...

So what are the oldest buses going "round at the moment?

Obviously the rail subs and sl200's....

No SL200's. They were retired ages ago and all long gone from service!

The ex-Melbourne ones are still in service (except 1358), but were built in 89/90, and are not the oldest buses in AdMet service.

Here is some updated info for you from previous posts:

565 is still in service.
As for the placement of the Midi's I believe this to be permanent  I hate them. They are used alot on the Gawler services, but venture onto other runs often enough.

As for the Scania's they just seem to float between Elizabeth and Lonsdale. Each depot only really asks for it's bus back when it is required for a service. The artics are in the same category, sometimes in the morning there could be 3 or 4 2800's @ Elizabeth sometimes none or only one! At present we don't seem to have any Lonsdale artics at Elizabeth.

Sadly, 'midi' 2111 was just spotted doing a 405 service at Salisbury. Not good indeed. :x

Seriously, it's a bus and it carries passengers, I'd rather see it on suburban feeders services than peak city services.

Its an airconditioned low floor bus, whats the problem? I really don't get it, especially since your profile claims you like "Jumbos". They are old, smelly, dirty horrible old things!

And being refurbished by Bluebird Rail for some big special event for this year for some strange reason- that's as far as I have heard.

While on The Parade yesterday, I noticed that stops 18, 17B, 14, 13 and 11 on the up have had their "Smart Stop" equipment removed and replaced with standard bus stops.

The remainder of the stops on The Parade: stops 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 and 5 on the up and stops 9 and 10 on the down have had the equipment turned off, yet remain in-situ.

City stops and those on Henley Beach Rd have not been affected at this stage, and continue to operate normally.

The beginning of the end of the "Smart Stops" is here; and I wonder with the removal of the requirement to have a "RTPIS" bus on these routes; will they still nominally be guaranteed access routes??

The old Metroguides used to list Henley Beach Road/The Parade routes as fully accessible services (along with 99B, 99C, MA1, MA2 and possibly a few others), since the death of the Metroguide, has any reference been published to these routes being fully accessible? I can't think of any.....

@ Eagle Eye.

There is no publication which lists the Wheelchair accessible bus routes and yes there was an updated yearly (when the Metroguide was printed) as to how much % of buses were wheelchair accessible.

I happen to guess that for some reason the Government doesn't even want to publicise which routes are guaranteed wheelchair access and somehow that applies to all of PT lack of publicity.

They are ok for passengers but to drive they are damn awful things. Designed by people on drugs, because no normal person would have designed a thing like that.

My opinion anyway.

haha yeah thats what I meant. I sure don't fit in them, I'm far too tall compared to the midget they envisaged would drive one.
