I found this to be the case as well. I think it was just a one off to see if changing things slightly would work better then doing it the same way as the rest of the fleet. It's like 501, different seats as well but much of the same for the rest of the bus like the others.

545 has the same style seats as 501 and all the merc artics have the inward facing seat behind the turntable.

4)Side desto's look different(rolls)
5)Has the conmventional side desto box with the doo-flickies, not like 501 that just has knobs like on a B59.
6)A very, very nice bus.
Don't forget the originally 501/545 had the side destos sticking up like the AEC swifts (along with narrow desto) had and then at some point it was changed

Also when 501 first came out it had a dotmatrix on the right side and the desto roll was on the left hand side but this was changed before the bus came into service.

Anyone recognise this bus which was on display at the Royal Adelaide Show in the early 80s.

I for one am glad they they didn't go with the SL200 style destos - I have enough problems reading the current ones.

And I didn't realise the side was was so far back when originally built.

I think it was just before the o-bahn was offically open for the public to use.

Was going to say it might of been afterwards cos I can remeber those doors on in-server 501/545 but then again the 0305 were used on 5xx runs prior to the track opening.

Actually, 501 and 545 kept their original doors, the extra indicator lights on the sides, and the larger brake and indicator lights on the back for quite some years.

It's only been, maybe five or so years since they were standardised to look like all the other Mercs in the fleet

1501 and 1545 now 501 and 545 had double front indicators and big rear tail lights which had two red brake lights and two orange indicators lights. on 1545 artic each side of the turntable curtin it had a large indcator. these didnt get removed full until 1995 when the safety stripe on the back of the obahn buses where removed. i have photo's of 1501 and 1545 in there different looks when sta ta serco changed them.

I've been in 501 once and it didn't vibrate as much as the other buses along the O-Bahn! :D

Um.. what the..? Your answers never seem to match the questions.

Your post had nothing to do with the thread at all apart from you had been on 501... They call it Trolling... putting meaningless posts on old threads... ;)

I think you're getting confused with 'bumping'. Trolling is where someone writes something deliberately inflammatory to get a response. For example, if CA wrote '1501 sucks ass', that would be trolling. (and bumping, in this case :D)

Thank you for 'bumping' up this older thread.
Being new here, I hadn't seen it before, and generally don't get the opportunity to sit here for hours on end scrolling through older ones to find interesting reading matter. :)

The bus on track should be #501, it is because the #501 got a big "special" service cover under the driver windows. Only #501 and #545 have that cover.
