2009 'Southern Suburbs' History Tour

Attention all bus loving Gunzels

The 2009 Southern Suburbs History Tour will be run on:

Saturday 18th July 2009.

 It will depart from Government House (Layover Zone - facing South) at 9.30am and will return between 5.00pm-6.00pm.

How to register - Please follow instructions carefully.

 Step 1. PM me with your first name only plus your e-mail address. PM subject must say '2009 History Tour'. (this is so I can keep easy track of them all, thanks). I will then send you an e-mail confirming your booking and all correspondence thereafter will be via e-mail unless for general discussion then use this thread.

 Step 2. Do nothing more until I e-mail you with further updates.

 Step 3. If you need to add further people to your list simply repeat STEP 1.

 The cost will be (I hope) between $30-$35. Charter costs have risen recently apparently. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY YET.

 I will ask for Non-refundable deposit via Money Order in the coming weeks, but again please wait until I e-mail you. This is due to the fact that the last two tours have come very close to me having to fill the gap because people have said yes yes yes they are coming then don't show up.

 Places visiting (in no particular order & subject to change) are: Willunga Railway Line - various places {lunch will be @ Willunga}; Silver Sands; Goodwood Road Subway; Herrings Lane; Thrushgrove Estate!; Woodcroft plus much more. There will be a bit more getting out and exploring rather than just looking at something through the bus window, so wear comfy shoes!

The bus to be used has yet to be decided but will be announced prior to the event. It could even be one of the new K's that Lonsdale are getting in a few weeks, who knows.

Hope to start hearing from you soon! :D

Umm That means no one will be able to go on the tour... A Normal bus would be preferred by most people jack... If a K230 Comes to Lonsdale maybe we could use that it would be fun to see it struggle up the hills or at that matter try and Get SG280H Bus 2363 2364 2367 2369 or 2372 they all struggle :P

I do hope that none of you thought I was actually being serious when I suggested a Rosa or a Toyota Echo

In all seriousness, I believe that 2746, the demonstrator 18.280 would be a good vehicle for this tour. It is, being an 18.280, representative of the most common type of bus in the southern suburbs but it is still unique, with it's LED destos, different seat trim, single door, back window, etc...
Planned mechanical problems are causing delays to JTVL services. Please stand by as we rectify the problem.

It's a CB60......

Perhaps something truly "out of the ordinary" would be better?

And no Busrider, a small fleet of Rosa's does not count.

We could use a walking school bus :) They seem popular with the young kids, and it is out of the ordinary.

You are quite right, it is a certain type of "bus" afterall

And this "bus" would also struggle up hills just like any other

It has a higher capacity than a Rosa and wouldn't rattle so much.

Due to a slow take up of interest for this tour it looks as if I am going to have to postpone it until later in the year.

I will give it until the beginning of May and if I do not have enough seats booked then I will move it to probably November.

Come on guys those of you that have been on The Mayor's previous tours know how entertaining these are and how much effort Steve puts into these. Let's get behind this one and make it a goer. I have already PM'd him as per his original request. Those of you that have not been on one of these tours should make the time to come and enjoy a day out with outher enthusiasts and enjoy your mutually enjoyed interest.
Wait, we can't stop here..........This Is Bat Country!

Why cant people be a little patiant and wait til its announced, then it would be a suprise.

Oh and there are other interesting buses to use besides an SL200 which has been on tours recently, If i am able to get over I will be happy with whatever bus is used.

It definately will not be an SL200 that is for sure.

It will be either one of the 2500's (2510 / 2511 or an Elizabeth bus) an SG280 or quite possibly one of the new K's that we are expecting in May. Furthermore, the first part of the tour could be in one bus then we swap into another, but I haven't decided on that yet.

Thankyou for all of your PM's so far. I have stored away your e-mail address' and keep them until I need to let you all know more private details and vice versa.

I would have thought that wandering over parts of the former Willunga Railway might have been more appealing.

Whilst the Willunga line will be the centre of attention there will be other things I will take you to along the way: Goodwood Road Subway (built by the MTT); Thrushgrove Estate terminus; Former Route 700 through Happy Valley; Original terminus of Route 680; Original but temporary bus terminal between Christie downs & Noarlunga Centre; Route 741H terminus plus a bit more.

Hope to see you there and spread the word. :P

C'mon everyone..as "Ex PTC & PTB" said the tours are entertaining, educational & I will add enjoyable. For me certainly worth the flight down from Brisbane.

And as an added bonus, you can each get a paper-model of whichever bus we will be using for the tour. (for a tiny fee of $1.00 per sheet)

So come along and have a bit of fun, and at the same time fill in some more seats so we can have a bigger bus! :P

hey mayor, if you can get an sg280h even if its for only one half of the day i'll go. if its gonna be a scania all day, i dont know whether people will wanna pay $35 for a bus which is new on the streets and can be caught frequently for only a few dollars. but seeing as its a history tour, i'm sure that wont be an obstical for many, but it would be for me  not to sound too up myself.

A regular bus ride on a Scania in route service is not as interesting or entertaining as The Mayor's tours.

thats a fair point howlerbus, i shouldn't have been so single minded, from photos its obvious that the Mayor puts a lot of effort into organising such an event, i guess the bus type isn't that important. :P

ATTENTION

Due to the slow response to this tour, I have decided to postpone it until late October / early November.

Thankyou to everyone who sent me their confirmations via e-mail - You will reamian on the list unless you can no longer attend later in the year.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but I am sure you would understand, that if I cannot pay for the bus then I have to fork out for it myself (almost had to do that last time because of a few no shows).

Watch this space for a revised date for the Willunga Railway / Southern Suburbs History Tour. :D

Now that it is halfway through June, is there any more info on the Tour as I would like to attend and will have to arrange time off / flights & find accomodation.
