There's been some mechanical work completed on the axels and braking system (that I could see without sliding under her), but not a lot more panel work. Apparently there used to be 6 people working on it from time to time, but now they're down to one.

I have a few ideas on that front, so hopefully we can see the 50 seater beast back running again!

Readerbus - Which NPCT bus had the CNG-Distillate conversion? I'm pretty sure it was one of the Leyland Leopards either #5 or #20?

Do you know why more weren't converted?

The listing states it has an auto trans, instead of the semi-auto it was originally equipped with. I assume this is another one Richies managed to blow up

Number #5 was the somewhat lucky recipient of the CNG-Distillate Conversion. The council didn't get any more done, as they had endless problems with the cng unit freezing over.

The lights look as if they have come from a Hawke Ranger. I like however how they have kept the volvo in it with that emblem at the front.

I am curious to know, were the Leopards, Mercs, and SL202s all new to New Plymouth? Considering they all have the same bodies as their sisters in Wellington and Auckland... What are New Plymouth buses like today? I'm guessing that this is another city filled with Distaerline M.A.N 12.223s? :?:

The New Plymouth City Council often tagged on their order to the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch orders. That's why the city ended up with such a varied and interesting fleet including AEC Reliance’s, Crossley trolleybus, the infamous Leopards, and the 0305 mercs and SL202's.

The current services are run by Tranzit, and use MAN 11.155's, 0305's, ex-Adelaide Volvo B10M Artics, and various Jappers. Apparently some new buses are being negotiated, and I'm betting that they'll be Designline's

Nice to find a New Zealand City with O305s! :D Do you have or can you take some current photos of these? Being a Sydney person, and Sydney having an "obsession" with O305 Mercs stretching back over 30 years, I would love to see more pics of other cities ones, particuarly New Zealand. :)

Hope not  I don't see why Tranzit can't bring back the SLF Volvos back made by Kiwi Bus Builders, that Okato Bus Lines had for a yera or so.

Tranzit can't bring back the Kiwi Volvo, mainly because they don't own it! It now belongs to Nimon Coachlines of Havelock North.

Also, I know I didn't think to get any when they were still standing... But, did you ever take any pics of the New Plymouth City Transport Depot Buildings... Like the Offices or workshops... I just aimed at the buses...

No unfortunately I didn't. I should have taken some just before they were ripped down to build that shopping complex, but unfortunately I wasn't living in New Plymouth at the time :x

Do you have any details of what they did? I assume they've reconditioned the motor and gearbox, plus I can see they've refurbished the seats and added a nice crack to one of the windows :P

Yep, she sure was Number #1!!! The City Council at the time wanted to have that bus because Shortly before the MAN's 1&3 arrived she had an overhaul to the Mechanicals... They wanted the bus to earn their money back

That's what I thought. Do you know what her licence plate number was? The records I have state it was EP7258 but that bus has been in Hawera since June of 1987, and given that the first two MAN's turned up in 1986....
