Rail Bus's Wellington Scene

Post by Rail Bus »

I am currently enjoying life away from Sydney for a little while, gunzeling trains and buses around Welliington. Below is a sample of the pics I have taken in the last 3 days. :)

that bloody big stuff on the roof is NOT aircon unit,it's just a combination of all the electrics and pole bases.remember its a Designline SLF trolley.yep pretty "shocking". :|

Reasons for not having aircon are 1. no more space on the roof for the aircon compressor. 2.aircon units are expensive. 3.the traction motors were not designed to be operated on tag-axle buses,if aircon are added, then they will probably blow up. 4.NZ bus would not care about the quality of the buses,as long as they are SLF wheelchair accessible bubble smilies.

yeah the pod is braking resistors and the such. thos traction motors will be struggling as you said pulling a tag axle trolley... there about the same weight arent they? so may not be a issue

when i was there in january riding 331 the passengers were complaining of the heat in the thing, it was topping 30 in there some afternoons! "come one come all ride the sauna express to Island bay!!!" it would be good if they had some forced air thing like adelaide's 0305's

227 was painted white after quite an amount of rust and panel repairs, it is now the bus that the Omnibus Society wish to retain for preservation.

And before you ask 205 was sent to Trolleybus heaven (351 now supported by its components) and plans put in place to obtain a complete operating Volvo near the end of the programme.

I very much doubt it TBR when the project started they took all the scrappers that had been in the barns for 10 or so years awaiting fate and as the buses were/are cut up here the parts are then shipped in a container south. The only reason I know 351 has 205's gear is that is what Designline informed a few locals of. I believe that when 205 met its fate it was the only bus cut at that time where as normally there are 2 to 3 being done at once.
