Why bother giving these Mercs this type of treatment? These overhauls on the MKIIs look bloody awful , the original look is much better on the eye than this .

I don't think it looks too bad. Not great though.
I like the bonded windows.

Different laws/regulations in New Zealand? (one thing I do know is you couldn't get a O500 or B12BLE chassi new on the road there as a route bus)DarrenH wrote:Why bother giving these Mercs this type of treatment? In 2447's case, according to the fleetlists, it was withdrawn in 1994, so it may of had some body issues and such rebuilding could of been worth it (afterall it's had over a dozen more years service). If it was fine, then eitherway, the investment would of been paid back by now. It could of even purely of been an issue of image, every mkII that went to Surfside as well as Mackay had new fronts added, check out DENAIR's pics of them (along with others)

Courtesy of a NZ forum, this bus has been identified as ex-Transperth 372.rainbowbus wrote:That one was shot in a storage yard Dunedin. Southeastern used to operate Dunedin urban routes but no more by the time I took the photo. It's probably looking for a new buyer there.Herbert wrote:Definitely an ex-Perth O305...

Hi everybody. I live in Hamilton where there are quite a few Designline rebuilds. I think about 9 were sent off to Designline and Fairfax for Extreme makeovers by Hamilton City Buses (now Go Bus). The Fairfax rebuild is one of the more attractive ones. The front retains some of the nice screen curves. These rebuilds also run on CNG which omits a strange odour of boiled cabbed or hamburgers. I hope i have submitted these pics I took right.

Sorry K270UB6, but no Designline body looks any good. It doesn't matter if it's Hamiton, NZ,or Melbourne, Australia. They're all crap - like our Bustech bodies.

I disagree Rail Bus - I agree the rebuilds leave alot to be desired in the aesthetics department, but some of their original builds have some nice styling.

What I am more interested in is how they managed to turn 0305s into low floors!
NSW, the state that embraces mediocrity.

If that's the case for Designline's designers (and I use the word "designers" loosely), all I can say is the beer must've been pretty bad for them to come up with the crap designs they have shown us on both sides of the Ditch. This, combined with the crap construction of their bodies does nothing to make you want a Designline body on your expensive chassis. As I said before: they make Bustech bodies look good!tbc1983 wrote:Like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder...biqua wrote:I disagree Rail Bus - I agree the rebuilds leave alot to be desired in the aesthetics department, but some of their original builds have some nice styling.
