Brisbane's busiest bus routes?

Post by tonyp »

I'm doing a check around Australia to find which are the most heavily-patronised individual bus routes in each major city. I'm talking about patronage (passenger journeys) per annum on individual routes, not where groups of routes go along one section of a common corridor.

Instinctively I would think that one of the route services along the busways might be one of the busiest, but are there figures available for patronage of single routes, as opposed to figures for all the routes along specific corridors? TIA.

111, 130, 140, 150, 199, 200, 222, 330, P331, 333, 340, P443, 444 some of the busiest I know.

I live on the 195/196/199 routes.

Any actual patronage figures for the top routes - like 66 which I understand is the busiest?

199 used to be the busiest at 3.4m p.a. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct= ... i2U71W6OgJ

66 would have increased since those times though.

Dug up the info from 2009:
(Article from "On Board" spring 2009 flyer, BT buses):

Passengers (Millions) Route

3.4 BUZ 199

2.5 BUZ 150

2.4 BUZ 130

2.0 BUZ 111

2.0 BUZ 333

1.9 BUZ 200

1.7 BUZ 444

1.5 412 St Lucia

1.5 BUZ 345

1.3 375 Bardon

1.2 204 Carindale via Old Cleveland Rd & Stones Cnr

1.1 140 BUZ

1.1 330 Bracken Ridge

1.0 196 Fairfield Gardens
199 has experienced some changes but 150 and 130 haven't really and all have shrunk. I would guess that fares are the main reason. Big hikes have put off a lot of passengers, and the outrageous paper ticket fare of $4.70 to go between two bus stops is a real disincentive to people who don't already have a go card.
