I am so glad this subject been brought up, I have been on a school run which had many problems, fights , kids been hit with skate boards footballs etc , even one time kid produced a knife, swearing not sitting down walking around the bus, I complained to my bus company, they dont like putting kids off the bus, you talk with the schools they say put them off , but they wont do it, it up to the bus companies, the bus company dont send someone out with you, they say well just give them warning letters, to me every bus should have a second person on it to control the kids let the bus driver, drive the bus safety is number one always, and another thing I dont understand even in newer busses they dont have seat belts, you pre school kids sitting 3 to a seat, one day there will be a serious accident a kid being hurt.
I have even had my company say to me we cant afford to put another person on the bus, even talking with someone from the Queensland transport dept they said there is extra funding available for school runs with problem kids on them, when I talked with the bus company they say we have tried and transport dept say no.
I found the only thing that helps putting the kids off the bus, and i started doing that without my company permission , that put the problem back on the the parents, straight away you find a big improvement in the kids, sure my bus company did not like it, if no action is taken about problem kids, the kids do what they want to, making the bus driver look stupid and getting stressed out.
We even had bus drivers say to me I dont care what happens what happens behind me I am here to drive a bus, not my job to enforce discipline, that becomes a problem to a driver doing that run when the regular driver is off sick or on holidays.
The company I work for we have a number of bosses, however they never come out with our drivers to access our drivers, i know I heard some complaints about some of our drivers driving ability and have witnessed there bad driving myself, however nothing get done about it.
But my company is not the only bus company who seems to have a slack attitude towards their drivers I know other drivers from other bus companies having the same problems with their companies.
To most drivers I talk with is the companies dont care, as long as they get their money from the transport dept once a month, which i hear is good money guaranteed money.

August 22 2017 Security cars to follow Brisbane buses as part of safety boost.
Brisbane buses will soon be twice as likely to be tailed by a security car as Brisbane City Council boosts its investment in bus driver safety.
The safety of the city's bus drivers has been topical following the death of council bus driver Manmeet Sharma in October 2016.

The council conducted a $100,000 independent review into Mr Sharma's death, which prompted a safety overhaul across the fleet.
Since that report, released in April, council buses had undergone changes including increased signage about CCTV and emergency exits and the installation of additional emergency exits at the rear of some buses.

Public transport chairman Adrian Schrinner said the council would take further action to improve the safety of bus drivers and passengers.
The council committed an extra $363,000 this year for rapid response vehicles, of which council had a minimum of three in operation at any time.
The extra funding would boost the capability to a minimum of six on the road.

Security workers travel in these vehicles and drive behind buses on routes that have attracted concern from both bus drivers and passengers.
The cars were used, as opposed to an officer travelling on the bus, so they could divert to any urgent jobs if necessary.
The extra security cars would be rolled out by early September.
Cr Schrinner said an extra $137,000 had also been allocated to deal with issues as they arose.
"That will be targeted security guards out there on the network in areas where we get feedback that there are problems, or could be problems," Cr Schrinner said on Tuesday.
Starting August 28, all Brisbane bus drivers would be given the chance to have their say on the installation of protective barriers on buses.
Cr Schrinner said bus drivers would be shown a bus equipped with a partial barrier and a bus with a full barrier to help them make their decision.
"Drivers can see what they look like, they can sit in the chair and experience what it would be like in the driver seat of a bus with these barriers in place," he said.
"So we will be supporting that opportunity for bus drivers to have their say on this important issue."
Council opposition transport spokesman Jared Cassidy said the opposition asked for the safety improvements six months ago.
"It's something that we've been calling for for months now, both in council publicly and in committee meetings," Cr Cassidy said.
"What he [Cr Schrinner] said today is he's going to go out to depots to talk to drivers, we asked them to do that over six months ago and he didn't think it was warranted at the time."
Cr Cassidy said the extra security was needed, and agreed bus drivers should have their say about protective barriers.
Cr Schrinner said the council was stepping up to deliver safety improvements for bus drivers and passengers as the state government's bus safety review had not yet been released.
"The state government review was meant to be a six-month review, announced in September last year, due to be finished by the end of March," he said.
"It's now 11 months on and there is still no sign of that review. So council has bitten the bullet here and decided to take further action over and above the recommendations of our own review to improve safety and security for bus drivers and passengers."

I just read an article about the New Super Buses BT is introducing in another group page on facebook and I thought this comment was worthy of posting;
"Just goes to show how sincere and committed the Government, DTMR/ TransLink, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Transport are in protecting the Bus Driver from being assaulted.
No separate bus driver cabin, and from what I could make out in the video, no protective driver screen.
Come on, isn't this what the Deloittes Bus Safety review recommended.
Again, politicians from all political parties and the bureaucrats in government have displayed their total disregard for bus driver safety.
It’s time, for all bus drivers to pick up the driver assault banner again and tell everyone,
Enough is Enough and to Get on Board and Stop Bus Driver Assaults."

How about more security riding ON the buses rather than just following them in a car?
