Railfan trip to south east Queensland.

Post by railex »

Hi

Im thinking of doing a week long trip to Brisbane in the 2nd half of this year. However I would like to know what people think I should visit or ride on. Eg trains, bus routes, toursit railways etc. Also does anyone know of good value clean accommodation near Brisbane's Central railway station?

Also is it worth going for a ride on the new tilt trains?

Thanks

Forget Central if you want good value accommodation. I often stay at Brisbane Manor. It's 10-15 minutes walk from Fortitude Valley station which sees every train which stops at Central.

Around the $100 per night level. Plus it would be nice if very close to high frequency public transport.

Check out the City Edge in Turbot St. Only a couple of minutes walk from Roma St TC.

Older building, but quite acceptable 3 star standard. I stayed there a couple of years back, and was the cheapest in Brisbane at that time.

^ Great location there. Looks more expensive than Brisbane Manor though.

Might be a bit better quality though. Un-airconditioned rooms and shared bathrooms might not be so attractive, depending on when you are going.
