ACT Fire Brigade Bronto Skylift

Postby Bus 400 » Sun Oct 04, 2009 2:11 pm

Some people may remember when pictures of this unit were posted when it was still at the fire truck factory. Well it is now in service in the ACT & this morning I spotted training being conducted on the new ACT Fire Brigade skycrane, enjoy.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

Interesting colour on those things, isn't it? I thought Red was the norm.

The correct name is BRONTO SKYLIFT.

THose photos make it look a little bit greener than the standard ACT colour which is more like chrome yellow. Usually the booms are painted white.

Name changed, if I remember correctly the height of this boom is 44m, while the old ladder ladder truck was somewhere between 12-22m.

Here are a few interesting facts I've found out:

-The new Bronto is the largest specialist fire fighter Telescopic Ladder Platforms operating in Australia & New Zealand
-Gold Coast is the only other place to have one of these fire trucks
-The appliance was built by Bronto Skylift in Finland
-The cab chassis was built by Scania in Sweden
-The body by Varley Specialised Vehicles inn Brisbane
-The unit cost $1.45 million
-The unit is called Bronto F44RLXERX
-The unit was commissioned in late November 2009
