Great shots, one thing that has always intrigued me with the trolley buses is the overhead infrastructure, would it of been high maintenance/cost or was it very durable?

I believe the carbon inserts on the bus trolley poles were very high maintenance

Would say the photo of # 201 would have been some months after bush fire that went through Southern Tas about 67 I think.

The trolleybus burnt out was #234 (photo attached - courtesy Ian Cooper's book Trolley Buses of Tasmania c1980)
AND NO Chris, I don't think this would be a candidate for restoration

As for THESE trolleybus photos, Bruce tells me these were all taken about August 1968 shortly before trolleybuses were withdrawn from service.

I can Frosty, Cooleys pies had their factory top of Goulburn st West Hobart, think the old factory is still there. National pies took them over?

YEP :!: remember them both, particularly Cooleys Pies. The distinguishing feature of Cooleys Pies over National, was Cooleys were round whilst National were (and still are) rectangular. Preferred National myself. That's one thing with these old photos, it's fascinating checking out the old advertisements and companies from yesteryear.

These are some great photos. I wouldn't be surprised if my granddad is in one of those trolleys, as he drove them back then for MTT :D

I've said this once and I'll say it again but the traffic signals of then have a big Swedish resemblance.

Anywho, such fantastic photos. It's always good to look at what our country used to be.

Thanks,

Perth did have similar 3 axle trolleys to Hobart? Very difficult to pick this one I think. Most likely Perth

I am positve that the picture is a Perth trolley bus, their system closed in 1969 29th August.Bus pictured would be a Leyland TTB 1933/38

Looks like I can confirm it is Perth Leyland Trolleybus. Photo looks like about 1940s according to my book Destination West Leederville,

There is a difference between the livery's Hobarts trolleybuses is is a darker green livery and Perth trolleybuses wore a lighter green livery and the trolleybus in the B/W picture is a Perth Leyland TTB I am opened to correction.

Take a look at the last pic where the former Queenborough turning circle was. Note where the original shoreline was before it was reclaimed for Drysdale Place and the casino car park. The servo is still there however not under the "Golden Fleece" banner but now the Caltex banner. This servo is at present closed for re-furbishment. More pics to come when the TB&CS re-trace the former Sandy Bay trolleybus route.
