Whitlam - The Power & The Passion

Post by Herbert »

I'm just old enough to remember the Whitlam era & have enjoyed watching the ABC's recent mini-series. As a child I often only watched the news in case there was a glimpse of some form of public transport.

Amongst the numerous clips included in Whitlam - The Power & The Passion were these two Perth scenes:

Who remembers buses in the Hay St Mall? A 575~599 series Worldmaster creeps through the Mall on a Subiaco bound 3:

A couple of frames from a clip of a 385~409 series Panther on a 353:

I wonder where the first panther was in that pic? probably not too hard to work out as the route number is known.

I saw those scenes too. There were many other Perth scenes throughout the program. Great to see the ABC remembers there is a western side of this continent.

There were many political rallies held in Forrest Place in that era.

Those buses in Hay Street also carried clippies, especially the Worldmasters with a rear door.

TP-1120 was the last bus I drove for Metrobus, Saturday 27th June 1998.
