Restored O-Bahn Merc!

Post by person1 »

Was in Campbelltown last week and saw a restored O-Bahn O305 rigid in full original green and blue livery. It was this bus, 1540 (this is not my photo):

Does anyone know anything about this? I am intrigued! :D

It's on the current list of Preserved Buses in SA.

Notes on its history :

"ex (R540) WJI 660 SouthLink, Adelaide, S.A.-ex (540) WJI 660 Torrens Transit, Adelaide, S.A.-ex (540) WJI 660 Serco Adelaide Buses, Adelaide,S.A.-ex (1540) TA 1540 TransAdelaide, Adelaide, S.A.-ex (1540) STA 540 State Transport Authority, Adelaide, S.A."

Notice in the photo that the registration plate is absent. Perhaps temporarily moved for the purpose of photography

The bus is privately owned, and I believe that it is unable to be registered as it is over 25 years old, but I could be mistaken. But whoever has restored the bus to this condition and original livery has done an awesome job!

Just FYI, that photo was posted on the Flickr page of Ryan Smith, who took the photo from Facebook, and I know this because my girlfriend is the one who took that photo, and uploaded it to her Facebook page, although he does give credit to the photo.

Does that mean it was driven there on a permit?

Because it has more than 12 seats, it has to be registered as a bus, and registering a bus over 25 is apparently quite difficult (unless you're the South Australian government). If it had less than 12 seats, it'd be designated as a "small bus", "van vehicle" or something similar, and wouldn't be subject to the same level of rules and regulations as a bus with all of its seats still in place.

Whoever did this is a dead set legend. That is how they should look complete with the mercedes badge on the front. Bastards that took them off!
