This afternoon sees the Mighty Hawks take on the Swans in the AFL Grand Final, Hawthorn's fourth Grand Final appearance in seven seasons.
Once again during the week the club held an opening training session at Waverley Park, former VFL/AFL park to allow thousands enjoying school holidays to attend. Charter operator Qunice's provided shuttle buses from Glen Waverley for those attending via public transport. A second shuttle departed Caribbean Gardens Market in Scoresby for those who elected to drive, as the infamous car-park has long been replaced by housing.
Past years saw Grenda and Kefford providng the shuttles in 2008 with Nuline assisting Quince's in 2011 & 2012
A line-up on buses wait patiently for fans, lead by 0584AO (Mercedes Benz O404-3, Motorcoach)
0558AO (Mercedes Benz O405, PMCSA arrives back from Waverley Park. This bus is witnessing it's 26th Grand Final this weekend.
0587AO (Spartan TB275, Coach Design) departs with a load of passionate fans.
Next bus off the rank, 0579AO (Mercedes Benz OH1830, BCI)
0585AO (Spartan TB275, Coach Design) & AO558
0555AO (Mercedes Benz O405, PMC). Theses buses wearing the Quinces colours were once a regular sight in Glen Waverley during late 80s & 90s when they operated the 631 Mitcham - Southland route.
Comparison of the PMC & PMCSA bodies of 0555AO & 0558AO
0555AO leads a precession of buses down Railway Parade North.

Re: Quince's to Waverley
Those 0405s would of been the latest and greatest on the Melbourne bus scene when the Hawks won their last back to back premierships in 1988/89. Even at 26 years old they still look pretty good.
Yesterdays grand final was the greatest Hawthorn match I have ever seen.

Re: Quince's to Waverley
They indeed would have been - buses built to what at that time was clearly a government operator's spec (the PMC Revesby units were basically UTA MkVs with different windows, the PMCSA units were an attempt to do the same thing with the SEII body, and both with a seating layout apeing the MTA MAN Mk2s of the same vintage) when the typical private route operator's spec was far more primitive, and the capital investment grants to private operators having been paused at the time. The buses that Melbourne operators were buying once the money became available again took on some of the features (like stanchions, stop request buttons and, in the case of Bell Street, driver's cabin gates), with the government and private route bus spec in Australia gradually melding into one over the next twenty years.scott wrote:Those 0405s would of been the latest and greatest on the Melbourne bus scene when the Hawks won their last back to back premierships in 1988/89.
