SkyBus in the 80's

Postby The Tulla Flyer » Mon Feb 07, 2011 11:43 am

I came across some old SkyBus photos and memorabilia. With thanks to the Operations Manager and permission from the General Manager I have been able to scan and share these memories of SkyBus with you all.
I hope you enjoy.

A couple of old Timetables from the 80's. Notice some of the comments, especially the one about "Radio Communication". How times have changed.

It is sure amazing to see how far Skybus has come from back then, and how much the operation has grown in size.

Nice shots/memories. Remember taking some shots of the 2nd livery myself back in my school days. Domino was the bus of the time off memory :?:

Out of curiosity, before the delivery of the red 14.5m Scanias around 2003-ish when the frequency was upped, what did the Skybus fleet & service consist of?

Hi Tulla Flyer,

Thanks so much for sharing.

In photo No.2 My father was Victorian Air Frieght manager for Ansett and thats were he worked.

I remember the Ansett airporter buses coming in to get express cargo fro the airport.

Do you have any other shots of Franklin St to share or can you can send me direct.

PM me for email

Thanks once again great memories.

Also the Domino bodied buses were the orignial TAA airporter buses, International 1830 chassis powered by LPG from memory, but i do stand corrected.
The curse of all Coach Captains is the dreaded ARB's. (see if you can work out what ARB stands for)

Before 2003, its was every 30mins between about 6am to 12am, and every hour between 12am and 6am.
They used 6 or 7 Mercedes Benz OH1418 with Newnham or Custom Coach Bodys.
Also they might of used 2 Scania L94IB/Custom Coaches on the run as well.

I believe the hotel transfers at the time, used mostly Mazda T3500's

I remember those Domino bodied Internationals, LPG powered motors i recall :?: and Ansett had their Ansair bodied Fords .Were there any other operators from those days that ran airport services :?: I asume that regional operators eg Geelong, Ballarat etc ran services as well.
