Out North-West Way

Postby Craig » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:17 pm

Here's a selection of photos taken in the outer North-West, taken on Sunday evening & Monday morning.

As reported last month, yesterday (4/6/12) saw Kastoria take over operation of the Route 460 service between Caroline Springs & Watergardens, previously operated by Melbourne Bus Link since April 2007.

Sunday 3 June 2012

Image
Melbourne Bus Link #426 (Scania K230UB, Volgren) heads along Gourlay Rd Hillside.

Image
Westrans Sunshine #80 (Scania L94UB, Volgren) at Caroline Springs Square

Image
Westrans Sunshine #81 (Scania L94UB, Volgren) also at Caroline Springs Square

Image
Having just arrived from Watergardens, Melbourne Bus Link #401 (Scania L94UB, Volgren)

Image
Melbourne Bus Link #401 waits for departure time

Image
Shortly before running the final Melbourne Bus Link departure from Watergardens Station at 21:10 on Sunday night, #401 laysover outside Sydenham Library. Watergardens is now only served by Westrans Sunshine (CDC) & Kastoria (Northern Transit Holdings).

I feel so bad for the staff and students of Mowbray College.

Great photos, Craig. I really like the one of MBL #401.

Thanks,

I was quite lucky with the rain actually - the puddles on the road had formed overnight, and I had finished before the heavy rain returned later in the morning.

No, at the front. It's not like most CR228s.

Ah, that. It's a CR228L body with the top of a CR221L. There aren't too many of them out there, but Sita is a major customer, which explains Kastoria starting to get them.

And in my personal opinion, it looks really good too!

Awesome photos Craig.

Now slightly off topic.......as you have mentioned in your post, Mowbray College is now a thing of the past due to a reported $18million of debt. It has been reported widely in the media that the college in the past couple of years, spent in the range of $1million to purchase a school bus.

Im wondering if their is a chance somebody might have a photo of said vehicle. For it to have cost $1million, it must be one extravagent and lucious looking vehicle.

Did I not read somewhere that the Volgren revised top frontal area was to eliminate the need to replace desto glass everytime a tree whacked the top front nearside corner of the roof.

Quite possibly the reason. Hence the reason why Sita and Kastoria still order buses with two piece windcreens. Its probably cheaper to replace half a windscreen than it is to replace a full on when perhaps only once side is damaged.

The idea is also not to use any curved glass, which is expensive, hence why the windscreens are flat too.

The other problem is, at night you cant see the left wing mirror if the lights are on in the bus due to the curve. It's impossible when it's raining. TBL run a split screen due to the XXX suspension on the 0405s, gutters are smacked with the skid bar and crack, right through the screen. It can be avoided if you know what you're doing, but drivers shouldnt have to compensate for a crap suspension set up.
My daily cruiser is a two-door turbo merc.
