Clipper Class Retro Style

Post by Centralian »

Something old is something new - retro style. Some interesting fleet additions for Fantastic Aussie Tours in Katoomba
and their plans for the retro style vehicles. The restoration and fit out on TV 8247 'Scarlet Rose' is 'fantastic'.
Enjoy.

But first a couple of other recent additions:

Great post and photos as usual Centralian, nice to see Fantastic Aussie Tours using the restored Flxible Clipper, surely one of the most iconic looking buses to grace the highways of Australia and AF 36 is still earning its living 64 years after being built.
After all these years I am sorry i sold my Flexible Clipper as it certainly attracted a lot of attention when we were out and about in it, mind you it was a beast to drive and its turning circle was atrocious although i must admit it was one of the extended wheelbase models and maybe the shorter version is better to corner with.

What was the ID on your unit Red & Cream ? There is another privately owned unit in the Mountains which I haven't referred to, and that's an extended wheelbase. I still have clear memory of my first ride on a Clipper during a school excursion to Canberra way back in the late '60's. Other than that it's been just images or static displays until this week. AR24 is a very nice unit inside as well, but unfortunately I don't have any 'people free' images to share.

Centralian, the Flxible clipper i owned was AF 67 Fleet No. D52 and was named Bambra. Beside being one of the rarer long wheelbase varieties it had a bit of a more interesting history as it was one of the two clippers selected to operate the new Adelaide to Perth route in 1962 and along with its partner were the only clippers to be fitted with air conditioning and a toilet/ washroom.
